Throw out bearing/ clutch fork
I’ve been fighting “clutch chatter” since I bought my ‘51 coupe back in the fall. I older gentleman I bought it from purchased it from a friend of his and said the friend replace the clutch. When bought the car it had terrible chatter. I resurfaced the flywheel and replaced throw out bearing, pressure plate and disk. Which no change to the chatter. But at the time shoebox central was out of the hubs so I reused the old one. The hub had a damaged clip. Finally found a hub and bearing combo on eBay. So this afternoon I removed the transmission the old bearing and hub was trashed. When I tried to install the new hub/bearing it seems a little wider than the fork tips. My question is has anyone else had the same issue? I’m wondering if I the clutch fork I have is the wrong one. Or does everyone have to modify the clips to make them fit?

Re: Throw out bearing/ clutch fork
I’m hoping someone with better memory than me chimes in but I’ll go out on a limb and say you bought an early (large) throw out bearing and carrier . They changed sizes in 49 I think . All earlier (?) will be larger than the 49 up .

Re: Throw out bearing/ clutch fork
Well that’s what I’m afraid of. They sent me the wrong part and now I’m down until I can find the right one. Everybody that carries the bearing hub combination is out of stock.

Re: Throw out bearing/ clutch fork
Bearing isn’t the issue it’s the hub that is hard to find.

As always, a good source for oddball stuff like this is our own Fred Wilner at "Southside Obsolete", "barnfind08" on this forum. Have you tried "Third Gen Automotive"? |
