New member to the site. I have reviewed many of the previous post and have learned a lot. Finally have my 1929 CCPU street legal, after several months of DMV issues. Went for a short drive today and when I left the house the truck was running at the correct idle speed, but during the drive when I would stop at a traffic light the idle speed had increased significantly.
Can anyone help.

I think this is pretty normal.. are you sure your throttle lever(right handle on steering column) is up all the way up? I notice I have the opposite problem you do. Off the start it runs fast and out for a run and coming to a stop it feels like it's running slower. It never stalls or nothing.

Others will be able to explain this I think

When coming to a stop,try lifting the gas pedal with your toe. If this lowers the idle, I would suspect that you have a weak spring in the throttle assembly.

Unclip the linkage at the carb throttle and see if the linkage can still move forward at least a little more. I had to bend my throttle arm a bit to get full movement so it would idle properly.

Hope not to sound silly but you have checked the floorboard/floormat for any rubbing?

Having no idea of how much you have replaced or repaired... in addition to above items; I would consider--
What / when did you set idle speed? Possibly car was not warm enough and you set carb when engine was half of operating temp

. I set mine after I have been driving it a bit and then on cold mornings or when I want it to idle a bit higher (at night when lights are on), I use level to idle it up a bit.

It is all temperature related. When the oil is cold, it takes more energy to turn the engine. As it warms up, it turns easier and idles faster. Both my cars do the same thing.

Doesn't sound silly at all. I had exactly that happen on a tour this fall. Tried to slow down and the throttle was stuck due to the pedal stuck on the mat. Kind of scary when you're not expecting it.
