Default B carburetor float height

Does anyone know the correct position for the round float in the Zenith B-1 carburetor? I assembled one with the top of the float [top inverted] at 1 3/4 inches above the carburetor seam. The carburetor ran OK, but I did not test it on the road.

Was I close to what it should be? Thanks, Richard Lorenz

The fuel level should be 5/8 inch below the gasket. This is the same as the A carb.

As you know he barrel float is different than the A.
One of the big thing with B carbs is getting a good seating needle and seat. If it won’t hold vaccum it will leak. The last Bcarn I didabout 2 months ago I had quite a fight between seats and float level along with gav housing sealing .

I had to use two gaskets to get float height right in the last one. You will have to do what you have to do to get it to optimum setting and performance.
All the best.

I made up a fuel level tester with the transparent plastic tubing so that I could measure the fuel level with the carb on the car. The result was that my fuel level was 3/4 inch below the seam.

As mentioned above I had set the float 1 3/4 inches from the seam. In the future I will set it at 1 5/8 inches.

As far as getting a leak-tight fuel needle, I have a few old ones that checked out good. I have also purchased 2 new ones, the ball type, which I think are working well. They run about $20.00, I believe, but it can save a lot of head-aches.

Richard,
I’ve not had good luck with the B gross jet ball seats. Sounds like you have.
Let me know if you have another solution or trick to them. Always looking for ideas and info.
The last B car was the carb from hell for sure !
Happy new year!
