Taps
Usually I think of taps when there is a military funeral involved, however, a loss of this gravity was felt as my coupe changed hands this week and is on its way to NY "as we speak." I put the old girl in the Mecum/Kissimmee
auction on Sunday and it sold. The guy who bought it has loved Model A's all his life, but it had been so long since he owned one he had forgotten how to drive one. He's in his 70's, and called me after the sale and we chatted for awhile. Normally, the buyer at one of these auctions doesn't have a phone number for the seller, but I had written a note with my phone number and left it on the seat. I also left a detailed note in an envelope with start/driving instructions just in case he was unfamiliar. Yesterday as he trucked up the interstate with trailer in tow, he called me about driving the car and getting it on the trailer, etc., etc.. The instructions seemed complicated for someone who was fighting the clock and darkness was about to set in and he was worried about getting it up the ramp. Fortunately for him, I live close to the auction site and I met him there and drove the coupe into the trailer for him. I had weird thoughts about driving my baby into a coffin. It was a sad moment, but it gave me the opportunity to drive her one more time. I have now set my sights on a Murray SW Town Sedan. The one I am eyeballing is a '31. This might or might not happen, but that is the plan. I would have loved being able to keep the coupe, but budget constraints only allow one "A" at a time. Until then, I will keep reading the forum, pay my dues to my local club and will stay in touch with my "A" peeps. Until a replacement is acquired, I'll keep the old girl as my "avatar" photo. Oh, yeah, the reason for the change is a desire to be able to haul more people and have a place to put my "stuff" when I travel. Jack

Re: Taps
Do you know where in NY your car is headed?
There are a number of MAFC members in NY who can keep an eye on your car and help it's new owner learn what it likes. |

Re: Taps
Bruce, the new owner lives in Binghamton, and has a lot of friends who are Model A
enthusiasts who will be helping him out. Jack

Re: Taps
Jack....if it helps any...I believe none of us really ever "owns" these cars...we just become their "custodial keepers" until the next custodian comes along. Look at it this way...now you get to apply all the knowledge you gained restoring and keeping one car roadworthy and in good working condition to yet another one...thus keeping one more on the road and perserving another for history...and it's future custodial keeper.
