Parts dealers
I frequently see Mac's having sales such as X% off, or free shipping. My question is do other model A suppliers offer similar deals? I have an order to place, and was looking to see what other deals are out there. Thanks.

Re: Parts dealers
I've got very good service from Mac's.
I've also been satisfied with the parts quality. My only issue is their shipping $. Since they almost always have a sale of some kind I just wait for one and then the reduced price offsets the high shipping cost. |

Re: Parts dealers
like several of the other posts I have had great luck with the parts from Macs. Once when I had a problem they looked after it to my complete satisfaction. And nobody has a catalogue that even compares to Macs.

Re: Parts dealers
90% of what I buy is from Snyder's the rest from Mac's. From that I have getting from Mac's I have been satisfied with. As and Ohioan I buy as much as I can from my State (2012, 2006 Jeep Liberty's) I will add that Don at Snyders goes beyond what it takes to help his customers.

Re: Parts dealers
I buy 100% from Snyder's and don't like anything about Mac's. Lots of bad juju there.

Re: Parts dealers
Don't overlook Walt Bratton's company. Snyder and Walt often work together to get very well built parts made to factory drawings by purchasing the rights to do so.
When I was building a pickup for FP, and at the last minute, I noticed that I had the wrong date on my window glass and I called Bratton's to see what they could do. Jeff stayed late after work, on his own time and put the correct dates on all the glass, then delivered them for overnight delivery and I had them the next day. I have been an avid Bratton's proponent ever since then and have not had one disappointing event.

So you joined just to make a complaint? It never was "a guy" it was a family and now it's part of a group so it's still not a guy. I've had nothing but good luck with Mac's-for both my A and a OT Mustang. Shipping's always an issue with any supplier and with Mac's now part of Eckler's, it's true, for both good and bad, there's more "corporate" to deal with. In years past, Mac's would brig your parts for free to a car show. That made sense for bumpers and cowl bands and I saved a ton. Now, they no longer even go to shows. There's no question that Bratton's, Snyders, Mike's, SVF and some other folks provide excellent parts and service, too. In general, it makes sense to purchase from someone you know, or someone closest to you to save on shipping. Last edited by 5window; 02-08-2015 at 10:56 PM. |

Re: Parts dealers
Everyone enjoying their Model A's should be grateful there are so many quality suppliers. I go back to the sixties when there were very few parts available. Our cars were only thirty years old but most Model A's were pretty much worn out by then so there was a definite need for parts. The company that had the most Model A parts was J C Whitney. Their offerings were pretty basic. There was just enough available to keep an A running plus a few restoration parts. There were a few specialty suppliers such as Obsolete Ford Parts and you could get tires and batteries from Sears. There were more parts cars around in those days and that was where I went for things like a water pump, manifold or axle. Of course those cars are mostly gone now often becoming new projects for new Model A fans. Thank goodness for all the suppliers and vendors we have today plus all the great literature that's available. Believe me there was a time when it was a lot tougher restoring or maintaining a Model A.

Re: Parts dealers
They also group a lot of parts for the same area in a price saving bundle.

Re: Parts dealers
I did not research the availability or the cost of repair parts for Model As before I bought my A. It was after the sale that I started thinking, parts, MMMM, might be a bit expensive and a limited supply but I found out different. As long as there are A parts suppliers out there, the parts and the customer service with be great and no one will ever have a monopoly on both. Retailers and consumers will continue in this field as retailers and consumers do in all others.
