Default Car stalling??

I have been driving my coupe for about 5 years with no issues. Yesterday my wife and I wanted to go to a new restaurant about 20 miles away. The car started stalling when coming to a stop. It was just occasional at first but then happened every time. Now it won't even idle. Gas is clean and not clogged. I think the problem is in the carb but what would have made this happen? Did I suck something up into a jet? Idle circuit clogged? The car has run like Swiss watch before this.

ck and adjust your points first

try and race it up and work the choke on and off which may free up something lodged in the carb.
if thats a no go induce some carb spray into the induction and see if it runs on that..

ck for a vacuum leak at the manifold

I had exactly the same situation as this a couple of weeks ago, on the way back from the All Ford Rally in the UK.

After a certain amount of head scratching, it turned out to be the manifold gasket.

I have an ea laboratories electric wiper. I took the carb off and it appears to be not clogged up. I completely disassembled it and I do not see anything wrong. The fuel was very high in the bowl. I will keep at it and also check the manifold for leaks. Just baffles me that this popped up out of nowhere. No warning signs. Car has ran great for the last 5 years.

You gone thru the carby and not found the problem
next I would check points and condenser
engines need fuel, spark and compression to run

Sounds like an air leak into the intake. The carb. flange, the intake manifold, or the gasket.
Or, that gas cap can do this. Just loosen it and see if things get better.

The float does not have any gas in it, I did check that first. I am going to put the carb back together and see if she will start. I will check for air leaks too. The gas cap is not clogged. Will keep you posted.

One thing I would like to note, as this kept happening that day, the was getting harder and harder to start up again. Towards the end it had to close the choke to start it and even that was not an immediate start but with choke open it would just crank and crank. Do not know if this points to the potential problem or not.

What kind of gas are you using, and what was the temperature outside when the problem showed up?
Did you fill at a different station and maybe get some bad gas or wrong type with too much ethanol?
If you have a glass fuel bowl, how does the fuel look? If cast iron, then drain some into a glass jar.

A new coil solved a similar issue my coupe was having. I used a Petronix coil, boy that 50,000 volts really gets it cranking. Always remember 90% of carburetor problems are electrical

When this car is warm, it always starts on the first crank, no gas pedal needed. That was why I was starting to worry when it wouldn't re-start immediately. Pulled the choke and after a couple cranks it would fire but I would have to keep my foot on the pedal to keep her going. I do not think it is the coil but who knows.

When you took the carb apart did you clear all the circuits, and visuall inspect the jets sounds like some junk got in the carb.

Ok so after work I put the carb back together, cleaned out the glass sediment bowl and put it back together. Also gave the manifold nuts a good tightening. Car fired right up and idled. Took it out on the road and no stalling. Ran just as good as it always has. One thing that bothered me though was after I got it home, I pushed the spark lever up and decided to turn the idle air screw in and try to stall it. It changed how it ran but it kept running. Decided to turn it out to try and make it stumble and it came all the way out with the car still running???

Does it happen only while moving, or each time the brake pedal is pushed?
I've heard of the battery cable shorting on the brake pedal and causing a loss of power.

It is not doing it anymore, I just wonder why I can't get my engine to stall by turning in or out the air jet needle? It should stall the engine correct?

is your base idle set to high?
i have also seen to short of a air adj screw causing it not to seat.. retry it without the spring.

you could be pulling air from the throttle shaft or intake / wiper circuit
make sure the throttle shaft is butt tight with no wiggle at all
