Default 40 Ford headlights

Are 40 Fords supposed to have a seal between the headlight garnish and the body sheet metal? Thanks Barners!

Nothing between the outer trim and sealed beam. But as stated earlier, there is a cork gasket between the headlight bucket and fender.

Trouble getting that final trim ring on? Modern sealed beam bulbs have locator tabs on the glass. In 1940, bulbs did not have locator tabs. The '40 trim ring has no provision for those tabs. The glass tabs need to be ground off. Carefully, slowly!

Drake used to sell sealed beam lights with the tabs already ground off. If you are going for the concourse, you need the real thing with a bulb inside and metal back. I bought a NOS script pair, and they were stupid expensive. Needless to say, I install them after I have driven onto the concourse (as well as the coke bottle H-10s and NOS fan belt) then remove them before driving off. I no longer am point judged, so I don't do that anymore.
