Default Battery Charging Question - Newbie

Another newbie question regarding positive ground system. When I use a 6 volt charger on the battery, if it's still connected and in the car do I still hook up the red terminal to positive and the black to negative? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I don't have any experience with positive ground systems.
Thanks
Scott

not really a stupid question. after working on modern things with a negative ground. you have to slow down, stop and think before you jump in and start connecting things
