Default 1955 Ford Sunliner vent window adjustment

Where is the adjustment to make the vent window top tilt in and out? I am looking to have the top of the vent window tilt inward towards the inside of the car. I can get the vent window to slide forward and backward and up-and-down.

Currently the top of the vent window stick out towards the outside about a quarter inch.

This is from memory...open the door there are about 3 thin nuts, or bolts - loosten then. Take the door panel off. Loosen the nuts that hold that window frame (vent window assembly). The bottom one is a stud that you can actually crank in or out to get the angle you need.

Does anyone else want to chime in? I’m having trouble pulling in the top of that vent window. I cannot find the adjuster for that.

Okay, this is from a 53' Merc Convertible but it should be the same. The adjustment to tilt the top of the vent window either in or out, is on the bottom of the window track.

Hope this helped.

Yes, the bottom of the second photo that Merc Cruzer posted.

I think that stud even has a screwdriver slot in it, so that you can crank it in or out, and still be able to draw the nut up against the door (before putting the door panel upholstery card on).

You are correct, I had the adjustment screw in backwards and assembled incorrectly. There is a screwdriver slot in the head of the screw.

Ya know what, maybe someone has had that apart before Old31. Only the nut and the washer are on the outside of the door. If that stud gets installed after the assembly gets dropped down into the door (from the outside) there will never be anything to tighten up to, and all it will do is pull the bottom inward. Thus it will pitch the assembly out at the top.

1 drop assembly into the door
2 start some fasteners and leave them loose. this hold the unit in place for you
3 take that stud in-hand, and put your arm in the door. Thread the stud in the bottom of the assembly
4 start your nut and washer on the outside of the door
5 align everything and begin snugging down slightly
6 adjust your pitch of the assembly by turning the stud with a screwdriver.
7 snug down your lower nut
8 close the door for the final alignment check
9 if good, tighten things down, and put the door panel back on.

See, not so hard! Actually, since yours is already in the car, all you have to do is the last 4.

I have restored bunches of them for '55 Sedans, but the way they work I think is basically the same. For the sedans, you can remove the whole assembly out of the door (the forward window glass run channel is riveted to it.
At the bottom, there is a heavy spring-loaded stub that is adjustable. If you have the original inner door upholstery panel, you should be able to remove the window garnish moulding and see that stud sticking down in to a recess in the door structure. There is a nut on the bottom for adjustment.
If someone has redone your inner door upholstery panels and made the top too tall, it will cover up the stud, but you can remove the door panel temporarily to make the adjustment.

All set. The fix was to tilt the entire window assembly in. This also tilted in the vent window.
