Funny, I just tripped over a 17" split rim about an hour ago. I was walking backwards looking at a cloud formation and framing it in my phone for a photo and BAM! Flat on my back....... Not that I wouldn't buy more parts if a local opportunity should arise

Re: Parts for sale in Twin Cities area!!
Well, 3 hour round trip gets me more stuff to play with. Original price listed would have been 75 bucks, but when I got there the gentleman said " give me 50 for all of it. So, once we loaded the listed items, there was other ford parts laying around, take what you want he says. Then, more in the garage, some small stuff, but half a truck load for 50 bucks, which at pay time I gave a bump, 3 20's.
All of it is off his 42 tudor, I see a funny looking spring stop on the rear axle, is that 42 only? don't remember seeing that before. He also threw in 4 wheels, seem to be in good shape, but when I looked for the date they are stamped 9 34 ? I have lots of wheels. Some are blank, but most have a year on them, 2 digits. They were not making 16" solid wheels in 34, so I assume these must be the super rare special wheels only to be run on a 378 rear end hence the 9 34 ! So, front and rear axles, springs, 4 wheels, 2 bolt timing cover, oil filter, shocks, fuel pump stand, 2 flywheels and PP's, dipstick, 81a heads, and more. Thanks Gary again for the listing. |

Interesting that the rear brake pictured in the middle have adjustable lower pivot bolts for the brake shoes. I thought they changed after 1941. Congratulations on your purchase, the transmission was what caught my attention.

Yes, I was surprised to see the early brakes too. Whats up with the spring stop on the rear spring mount ?

Re: Parts for sale in Twin Cities area!!
Looks like '41 axle with that spring stop and lack of sway bar mount; maybe measure the width.

Re: Parts for sale in Twin Cities area!!
It's an excellent haul. Lots of good parts there for very little money. Can't find anything like that here in the UK.

This is a good example why I suggested that we have a place to post CL ads.

Re: Parts for sale in Twin Cities area!!
For fun, Did some research on my new pile of junk I don't need, so here's the results, comments welcome. First off, the wheels. I was wrong when I stated to my memory ford wheels have a 2 digit date, like "40" . After looking at about 15 wheels in my stash I was surprised to see most had no date, and the ones that did had the month/day/year.
So in this case, I was baffled by the 9-3-4. After seeing that the others all had a real date , I looked again closely and sure enough there is a 1 at the end. Barely visible, clearly the mans #1 stamp was wore out as the 9-3-4 on all 4 wheels was really deep, and the 1 was only half there. If not for the little flag portion on top of the 1, you couldn't see it on all the wheels. That puts us at sept 3rd 1941 Now, the man told me its all parts from the same car. The car was there, but up on a lift so I only saw the chassis really, had no interest in the rest, it was above my head! The rear axle with the spring stops would be a 41 axle as noted by knowledgeable folks here. I measured it today, Wider than a 40 rear I have . From memory, which has become pretty non factual these days, I thought 41 was the same width as the earlier rears. Its not, but then the front axle has squareback spindles, which I thought were started in 42. Transmission dates to 46, so that has been replaced from a junk yard....remember junk yards? man, life was good then! So, September 41 was before Pearle Harbor, And KH was making wheels like crazy, so correct me if I'm wrong, but by sept they would have been building 42 cars. Also note the 2 bolt timing cover, which should be 42. I saw the original motor, same orange paint on the timing cover and the water pumps, and the 81 heads? Also, the right side water pump has an extra cast boss for a heater outlet. never seen that before. So...my guess....late car and Henry was using up what they had in stock. September wheels, maybe the car was built after the war started, and to me it should have been a 42 model. Should have looked more at the car on the lift, but I was looking at the junk under the bench he was giving me. Again, comments for history welcome Last edited by cas3; 08-12-2022 at 11:48 PM.
