C&G lack of service
Very disappointed with C&G. I hope this experience is simply an anomaly.
I'd purchased female dovetails for my 36 roadster. They arrived promptly. Vintique. Enough said? Not even close to correct. Left a message for C&G the other day. They promised to respond in 24 hours. That was nearly four days ago.

Re: C&G lack of service
Can these still be found NOS? I hate the Chinese reproduction stuff. It's "stuff" because it doesn't qualify as parts.

The Bob Drake ones used to be right on.When I did a '35 roadster in 1998 that is.I suggest to try Fred at Southside Obsolete. All Ford in Campbell in CA another source for NOS.

Re: C&G lack of service
No issues with C&G. Did you speak with Kyle? They have some new employees.

Two issues here, they need to be separated. 1. C&G not returning your call as promised. CALL THEM. Give them an opportunity to make it right. 2a. The part. Did you get what Vintique sells for the 1932-36 roadster/phaeton, or something else. Post a photo of what you got. 2b. Assuming (and we all know how to break that word down) it is what Vintique sells for the roadster, what are your specific issues with it, and any corrections that can be made in the field, or not made. This will help the next victim in dealing with the issue. 2c. What are the alternatives? Vintique's is the only one currently marketed. Yes Drake made good ones 40 years ago, but switched to the same lesser quality one Vintique has. NOS with 90 year old rubber inserts? If you can find any you will have several hours rebuilding them anyway. Someone making a better one? How many potential customers are there for a 250.00 pair (good/not perfect) vs Vintiques at 25.00 pr on Epay? Anyway... post a picture just to verify what is going on. |

Re: C&G lack of service
While lots of my NOS rubber parts are petrified and beyond use, I have not experienced that problem with NOS female dovetails, be they for phaetons-roadsters, closed cars, or station wagons, and certain other rubber parts.

How many potential customers are there for a 250.00 pair (good/not perfect) vs Vintiques at 25.00 pr on Epay? Karl, I own a number of businesses. I don't find any excuse for NOT doing what I promise. I am betting that like you, ya stay up late at times, doing what was promised. Alternatives? That is not a concern in this regard. The concern is they sold me something that is not as advertised. period. How about advertising "needs modification" or something similar so a guy can make a more informed decision prior to paying. Heck, just list "made by Vintique? Then, most guys with even a little experience can pretty much figure it's junk. I was a tool maker so am confident I can make a lot of things "work". These would require a ton of work as they are simply formed incorrectly. And, as far as if it is viable for someone else to make them... another non-issue in the relevance of this thread. By the way, yes, I got what Vintique sells for a '36 roadster.

Re: C&G lack of service
It seems to be a sign of the times. A lot of good items are no longer available now.

Re: C&G lack of service
Speedway shows their stock is "Speedway Brand" and exactly TWICE THE PRICE (@$55) of C&G for stainless:
https://www.speedwaymotors.com/1932-...ess,39895.html Either a possible alternative or they are also Vintique made and a bigger ripoff than C&G. Personally I have had great service from C&G. |

However Kube's point is not about the parts being junk its about misrepresentation and inadequate follow up. The problem is a lot of the vendors are just that vendors -If the Vintique label says its something they lack the experience to identify it as junk or being not fit for purpose . I've never had any problems with C+G and they have seemed to know out cars well -but staff change and things change.

Most likely reality is Vintique, Speedway, (and Drake second edition) are all buying from the same source in Taiwan, or the engineering was sold under the table, again in Taiwan. |

Re: C&G lack of service
Yes, most likely. Still, nothing to do with how C&G is (not) handling this situation.

Re: C&G lack of service
Yes! Double that from me =#2 and #3!! Excellent Fred! Excellent John!
Obviously there are those that hang Chinese junk on their car. To me, that's like hanging Covid on a Made-in America Ford. (Covid = keep the car outta the local meets; it's a Chord; not a Ford. |

Re: C&G lack of service
C & G is one of the best. They know thier cars and are always a big help. Sometimes it takes a follow up call and or email, but they have always come thru for me.
As far as Vintique, that’s really “Par for the Course” They are very hit and miss with thier products. |

Re: C&G lack of service
I have contacted them three times and all three times I'd been promised someone would contact me within 24 hours.
I'd always thought C&G to be a good place, especially when Clyde was running things. Apparently, that is no longer the case. Me? I've had enough.

Try contacting Dorothy (Clyde and Gail's daughter), she has been running the operation for many years now and she should be able to help get your problem resolved. Her email address is: [email protected]. Hope this helps?
