Re: DETERGENT OIL vs NON DETERGENT
I like MM in the gas. I'm not sure if it helps much, though. I tend to use that or ATF in my tank. The valve problem primarily . Model A valves tend to stick if the humidity goes up. I like a substance other than gas vapor between the valve stem and the guides. I think it's another high place in the engine where moisture collects like the distributor. What the Model A engine needs is a PCV valve to siphon off this moisture.

Re: DETERGENT OIL vs NON DETERGENT
30+ years ago I worked as an automotive machinist. We rebuilt many engines from industrial customers (mill trucks, buses, etc) to run on LP gas instead of gasoline. Every conversion we did got a top end lubricator that dispensed MM oil into the intake to lubricate and clean the intake valves. Without this, the intake valve, valve guide, and seat would wear and carbon up quickly.
Early DI gasoline engines had similar issues. Many now have a single injector in the intake to clean and lubricate intake valves/guides with gasoline.

Discussing oil:
Please find Richard Widman’s article on: choosing the right oil for Chevrolet Corvair. This will teach you everything there is to know about oil ! Not as simple as many folks treat the subject … Henk
