Rear float a motor pics needed
I have a B trans installed in my model A frame. I am surrently using the stock rear mounts with a spacer added to take up the width slack and the holes in the stock mounts are slotted to match up with the wider spacing on the B flywheel cover. I feel like a little extra support at the rear of the trans would be good and notice there is a component that comes with the float a motor kits that must mount somewhere on the center cross member and then down to the rear of the trans. For the life of me I cant find a pic of this component installed. Does ANYONE have a photo of this (preferably with the body off) so that i can see exatly how it fits so I can determine if it might work for my B trans or whether I could modify one or maybe make one myself.
Attached is a photo of the component I am referring to. Thanks, Scott |

Dang, missed me by a couple of days. I just had my front floor board out of the Town Sedan and could have gotten a picture for you. Sorry.
The mount just bolts to the top of the trans by the u-Joint housing and a rubber block just rides on top of the cross member. |

That is until it falls out onto the road.

Re: Rear float a motor pics needed
So, does this auxilary bracket mount up inside the center crossmember and hang down to catch the u-joint cover? and the two bolts that hold the cover halves together now bolt up into this piece as opposed to just using a nut to hold the two halves together?
Seems reasonable if that's the case. Thanks, Scott |

Photo of rear Float-a-Motor installed. The metal plate on top is bolted to the bracket and holds the rubber cushion in place.

Re: Rear float a motor pics needed
Thanks for the picture Walkerlakeprinter. so where does it bolt to the frame? Is it somehow only secured to the thin lip of metal that protrudes out from the center crossmember? Sorry for being so full of questions. Maybe I should just order one and figure it out, but i want to make sure it will work with the V8 U-joint cover that I have to use with the '32 B trans.

With the rubber between the frame lip and the support lip.

Re: Rear float a motor pics needed
Scott, that rear contraption is not necessary with stock or solid rear motor mounts. Also you will need to have the same height at the ball cap as an A trans or it might need other modifications. When you are all done with the install, start a thread and detail what you had to do to make it all work. I have a B engine and trans that may end up in my car some day.

Re: Rear float a motor pics needed
Before my current re-build, I had Float-a-Motor mounts but still had the old U-Joint cap with the "finger" that was over the cross-member. The finger did not rest on the cross-member, but had some clearance. This year I replaced the U-Joint cap without the finger and installed the pictured set-up. I discovered that my U-Joint covers did not match the one on the transmission and somewhere along the line they were connected with three bolts instead of five. It's amazing what one can find on a car that has been around for nearly 90 years.

Re: Rear float a motor pics needed
LIGHTBULB! I just had an A-HA moment. I couldnt get my head around it because I was assuming that it must be somehow connected to the frame. Thanks for bearing with me until I ‘got it’. I will do a post about how (if) my solid rear mounts work. It wont be until spring, at least.
