Default 1936 ford car engine heads

Hi Guys/Gals,
I bought a 1936 engine today to rebuild over the winter for my car. It came with a pair of Steel heads instead of Aluminum. They have FORD script in the center but no numbers are visible on the outside. On the bottom side front of only one of the heads it says: Z 1-12-3 9
Anyone have any ideas? I'm wondering if it is a truck head or a Ford replacement part.
I'd appreciate all ideas.
Thanks,
Bruce/CT

Passenger cars came with aluminum heads, commercial cars(trucks, etc) came with iron heads. Ford replacement (rebuilt) engines used iron heads.

Hi 37ford4door,
thanks for the reply. The waterpump outlet is in the head. I am not certain if I will go to Aluminum heads. I would think that 2 dissimilar metals may not be as good a mating than 2 the same. Any thoughts?

This is one of the reasons Ford serviced the cast iron head.

Use the cast iron heads with aluminum heat paint will look and perform fine. Pete/Ct
