Hello Flathead Brothers and Sisters
I'm a long time HAMBER, I decided to venture out and come on over to the Ford Barn. Thought I'd throw out a quick hello as not to ruffle anyone's feathers...thanks for having me!

Welcome, and a word of warning. If that's your engine in your avatar, it's not a good idea to swing a 32-48 flathead off a conventional engine stand.... the engine weight can crack the integral bell-housing. Not trying to be a smart-arse, just trying to save you some possible grief.

Re: Hello Flathead Brothers and Sisters
Welcome. You really need to get that engine down. Especially a long block like that. You may get by with a bare block that way, but a long block - your asking for disaster. Hank it from the side exhaust port bolt holes.
You may also find this group tends to have a higher standard of cival conduct. A more mildly mannered group. Keep us in the loop with your "A"V8. great project to follow you with. We Love Pictures! |

Re: Hello Flathead Brothers and Sisters
Thanks! I appreciate the welcome and I appreciate the advice...I have the engine down now. that's the way I got it out the back of the pickup (no engine hoist) I have the appropraiote mount for it now...A model A frame! Just out of curiosity: I've heard that you shouldn't hang a flathead like that but other than the stand falling over I've never met anyone who's had a first hand disaster with the bellhousing as a result of this storage practice?
Brendan COOL truck KIWIinUS (is that U.S. or us?) I too have done both stands and have yet to have a problem. |

Re: Hello Flathead Brothers and Sisters
I had one like that stored for 4 years, never had a problem.I even rotated it every once in awhile. Was carefully around it ,it was a 53 .On the other hand I had a 60 that came out of a boat that had been sunk during hurricane Hugo .It was beyond repair and it was mounted the same way and it did crack the bellhousing.I agree it doesn't look to safe.Jmo.

You will find (for the most part) that this is sort of a mild bunch, not wild and roudy like the HAMB can get at times. Both Forums are good. The HAMB is more for late night and not for Prim-Time when family may be watching. We are not just into original stuff but all good Flathead stuff. Enjoy, and we DEFINATELY LIKE PICTURES! Chris |

Re: Hello Flathead Brothers and Sisters
I'm a little late, but welcome to the FordBarn. Like others have said, you'll find a lot of useful information here, along with varying opinions. It's best to take a consensus before attempting anything new, that's my opinion.

Thanks! I usually go by the rule..If it sounds dangerous it probably is. It seems advice can go both ways some guys will tell you and can be done when it can't and it can't when it can. since you folks say you like pictures I put up some here
