Eyebrow Fenders ?
The coupe I'm painting has "Eyebrow" fenders. The metal seems light and weak, like it's been sand blasted too many times and that leads to a distorting of the original shape and contours. I'm going to take the old paint off with chemical stripper to avoid grinding any more metal away. But what's a good treatment of the "Eyebrow". I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Re: Eyebrow Fenders ?
Use a heat gun and a razor blade in lieu of a chemical stripper.
FWIW, "eye-brow" fenders were never authorized to be installed on any body other than the Fordor according to blueprint. I am not saying it didn't come with them originally, but the probability is very, VERY slim that it did. Likely installed as a service replacement fender, so you may want to sell your fenders and find the correct ones that have a little more substance to them. |

Re: Eyebrow Fenders ?
I suspected as much! Not specifically about 4 drs, but that the car was an assembly job with parts from hither and yon! The car is documented as coming to Pa from Ca where it was restored in the 70s or 80s. Some of the repairs straddle the border between "Farmer Fixes" and the way they used to do things. For instance, instead of welding, they used riveted patches and then they sloughed on body putty. It is reminiscent of my days in the Airframe and Engine shop where riveted sheet metal patches where the norm. Thanks for the heads up!

Brent, so a paper trail confirms only the fordors.
Last I heard (years ago) that was suspected, but no proof. My early 30 fordar and another I know of had them. |

Hey Kev, as you know, many factory prints list specific applications for what the parts is to used for at the top. That is where this info comes from.

The guy we borrowed the tow truck from went back and got the car (his wife was easier going) and he sold the fancy hood hinge retainer for $25! He later sold the eyebrow fenders to a hot rodder for his tudor, and the last I heard, they were still on the tudor. That was over 50 years ago. For those wondering, here is a photo of an eyebrow fender. Interesting that this car in the photo is an unrestored tudor! Last edited by 2manycars; 06-23-2017 at 04:24 PM. |

Re: Eyebrow Fenders ?
To get this back on track, I'm thinking of welding small stiffeners (1/8 wire) or some such
on the under side of the fender. I can literally bend the end of the fender with my finger and it scares me! As someone said, all that work under cheap paint ! How about all that work on poor metal! Unfortunately I have very little storage space and no prospects of acquiring two more fenders, so it's better the devil I know......... Terry |

Re: Eyebrow Fenders ?
If you weld the wire to them......you will make them serviceable
But likely kills any future value of them. Will also make it look like any 60's-70's resto But have at it and enjoy the car when done. To each his own! |

Paul: I have several more photos of that car and the woman, but somehow she seems to have lost most of her clothes, so I cannot post them here. The car has a 50's style interior, and the woman is all natural, with no sillycone.

Re: Eyebrow Fenders ?
If you look at the book "The Ford Model 'A' As Henry Built It" by George DeAngelis, you will notice on page 155, a factory photo of an early 1930 pre-production photo of a Standard Tudor with eyebrow front fenders. Can someone please explain this discrepancy?
