Default Cylinder head bolts not protruding past top of nut after torque.

I recently replaced a cylinder head on my 1928 tudor along with recommended bolts nuts and washers. When I removed the old head I noticed most of the bolt threads on the block were broken through . So I tefloned the bolts sealing threads thoroughly and installed them making sure all were in properly and level or same height . The new head which was a higher compression head required the new bolts , nuts and washers . Everything turned out fine except the bolts did not protrude to the top of nuts . After several weeks of use and no problems should I be concerned even though torque is good ? I hate to repair something that aint broke but I am a perfectionist and it is bugging me .
Nut caps?

Did the manufacturer specify washers to be used on the new HC head? I don't recall seeing washers used on a head, unless it was an aluminum head and was specified for.

I would leave it but you could turn out the studs the amount they are not protruding and put the washers and nuts back on or you could use acorn nuts.

I replaced the cylinder head last winter by a Snyders 5.5 High Compression head. I got new bolts and nuts and also washers. I had the same problem, the bolts were too short with these washers. Finally I put on the head without the washers, as it was done with the original head. No problems at all.

The studs should be installed as follows. All studs except #7 are screwed in to 2 3/4" to the first thread down, #7 is screwed all the way in unless the hole is broken through, at that point it is screwed in to 2 15/16" to the first thread down. The two front long studs are screwed in to 5" to the first thread down. This is by Les Andrews and how I do it. This will set the studs to one thread or so out of the nut. Since yours are not giving any trouble, I would leave them alone until the next time you remove the head or till you can't stand looking at them being incorrect.

I am curious as to why washers were "recommended" ?

Unless it is an aluminum head, they should not be needed ?

I agree with those who suggest that if all is okay ( no leaks ), run it as-is, and deal with it next time you need to pull the head.

I would assume that if you have washers under those nuts, you're not worried about points judging.

Ford did not use washers under the head nuts. Unless Snyder's heads are now made thinner than they were a couple years ago (I doubt it) they are thicker than the original heads therefore there will not be as much thread exposed on the studs when the head is installed. You need the full thread for proper torqueing.
