Need help identifying intake manifold
Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this manifold? I looked over the internet and didn't see anything exactly the same and was hoping someone here would know. Regards Bill |

I don't know what it is, but if that price includes the two carburetors it's a bargain.

JBill,
That's what I thought. The gentleman that I bought it off of said it was a display and the carbs where complete and functional and had been rebuilt. I picked it up at the Paradise Valley antique car swap-meet. Regards Bill |

Re: Need help identifying intake manifold
One carb is twisted to provide clearance from the exhaust.
Go over to the HAMB ( Jalopy Journal ) and find "Banger Meet" post a photo and someone there will identify it. Looks early to me, maybe 1930's the later after market manifolds were mostly down draft which requires some type of fuel pump or pressure system to get the fuel uphill. The manifold was a bargain even if it didn't come with the Zenith's, very good buy. Perfect for a speedster or a display engine. Steve

Well, the carb's are trickling in now, ... Rebuilt, air balanced, all new plating and coated in Cerakote. The pictures don't really show their true beauty. My question is about linkage, fuel, and will the GAV/ choke still be usable considering the carbs are not in the original location? Regards Bill |

Re: Need help identifying intake manifold
What color and type of Cerakote was used. Was it air or oven cured. There are 4 types on their website. Some have used this on exhaust manifolds also. Looks nice, I would like to try some.

Re: Need help identifying intake manifold
I have enough trouble keeping one of those kettles perking. I love my wife, but I don't want two.

Color = Black Drying = Oven Cured I was thinking on coating my frame the same way, ... but I'm going to have it powder-coated instead and am dropping off the frame in about a 1/2 hour. Sandblasting > Black Anodizing > Clear Coat $400.00 I was thinking on Cerakote for the frame as well, but decided to go with Anodizing. Cerakote is the same price but Anodizing is local saving me about $60. in gas. I'd rather paint it myself, but the weather in my neck of the woods right now, ... It would take months to dry if it ever did. To bad it's not spring time. Regards Bill |

Photo Bucket is holding my pictures hostage so I can't post pictures of my dual updraft setups at this time . Actually dual updrafts are the very easiest to set up . One of my setups uses a home made linkage and the other uses the linkage that came with my Trojan manifold . You could probably get a linkage from Charlie Yapp . Charlie includes two linkages with the dual updraft manifold that he sells . Both carburetors wqork together at the same time and aperform well without problems. I only use the GAV on the front carb and keep the rear GAV closed I also only connect and use the choke on the front carb. Choking both carbs is way too much and will only cause problems . If you think about it have you ever seen a multi carb setup that choked more than one of the carbs ? You will need to lengthen the choke rod and probably add a new hole to the firewall to allow the choke rod to match up to the carb . I used a small carrage bolt to block off the original choke rod hole and it won't even be noticable . I use the choke and GAV just the same that I would if I was only using one carburetor. I don't run or reccomend running air breathers . I don't use them on any of my model A's whether running single or dual carbs . My experience has showed me that air breathers cause rich operation and more problems than they would ever solve . Mine are only fun cars and not used for primary transportation . I run a hood and engine pans on my roadster and dust hasn't been a problem . More carbs or a larger carburetor will add horsepower and a little more top end but doesn't add that much torque . If you want to feel a seat of the pants effect You will need to use a higher compression head with the dual updraft setup, otherwise you will only gain a little top speed . No mods are necessary to run dual updrafts but more mods will add to the end results because they will all work together . Running dual updrafts is not as complicated as tring to run a dual down draft setup . I run original jets with mine . No fuel pump is needed and the inside controls remain as original . My experience has been that dual updrafts are a good setup for street use without the risk of flooding and filling the engine with raw gas like dual down drafts can sometimes cause . Dual down draft set up is best for racing. Dyno tests show a 10 horsepower boost withCharlie Yapps dual updraft setup but without higher compression you probably won't feel much other than a little increase in top speed .I hope that some of this will help . |
