Default FSI owners?

Just trying to find out what owners of the FS ignitions with a downdraft carburetor have their timing set at. Are you on set at zero, or more on the advanced or retard side? I used a timing light on mine, which I think I last set it at five degrees at idle, and no more then 25 degrees at high Idle.

The carb doesn’t make a difference on timing, it’s the compression ratio that makes it important. Also the cam has some effect as far as trying to get a pucky pucky sound at idle, meaning a more retard at idle and a limited max at speed.(with higher compression)

Its not about what the carb does, I just want to know what the timing is set at with a downdraft and the FSI.

FSI tells you to set it at 0 degrees, regardless of carb. That may be an issue in parades (lot's of idling in hot weather), as it may overheat. The other problem you may have is if you have a high compression head, you may have too much advance at higher RPMs, in which case the only solution is to create a limiter on the mechanical advance.

With an FSI, it's all a balancing act.

With the FS zipper, it may be difficult to get enough retard to idle properly @ 0 deg. and h.c head as others have stated. If pulling hills, the zipper may be too advanced @ 0 deg. needing mod's to the springs and/or dizzy top plate which is normally fixed in full up retard (set timing) position.
