Registration Fee$$$
The government is amazing, 1 year registration renewal is $53. $53 for a paper sticker to put on my 1929 windshield. Guess I cant complain, I just noticed that my regular vehicle is a 2 year renewal at $120.50 for a paper sticker.

It must have been some time when you registered a collector vehicle in Wisconsin, times have changed and fees are higher. For a Collector plate, it now costs twice the regular registration fee for that vehicle on a regular plate, plus a one time fee of $50. For example, regular registration is $75, x 2 = $150, plus $50 fee = $200. Any additional collector vehicle is $150 to the same person. The plates are one time fee. Glad ours were issued Collector plates years ago when they were much less expensive. Our plate number is in the 1400 range. $5 ? Thanks for the memories, Hope you're taking good care of that 1952 F-1 pick-up! Best Regards, Stew Masche

Re: Registration Fee$$$
We pay the same price for antique plates as for passenger plates, but get a nice break on town property tax if we use the antique plate. The money grabbers in Hartford are always trying to kill that, but so far we have prevailed.

Re: Registration Fee$$$
Illinois is kind to Antique Car owners, no excessive fees AV plates are 5 year plates at $25. Any car 25 years old or older.
EA plates are a bit more if you want to drive all the time but still cheap. Heck, a Big Mac value meal costs that. No complaints here. Jesse White, Sec. of State, is an old car buff from what I've heard a nice guy. |

In Iowa, regular plates are $10 per year for my '29 Tudor and $16 for my '29 Coupe. A real bargain but never have figured out why they aren't the same.

Re: Registration Fee$$$
Sounds like a good deal to me. In MD, we pay one fee if the car is over 50 y.o., so no yearly renewals. Still, $53 isn't bad. In a way it is like the electric company. You use no electricity, you still get a minimum bill, just for the privilege of having the electricity turned on.

Re: Registration Fee$$$
Enjoy your low vehicle registration fees guys. My 28 pickup annual fee here in California is $89 , same for antique vehicle, and our wonderful government folks just voted in additional fees for next year according to vehicle tax value which will add another $50. California has the sixth largest budget in THE WORLD and boy are we paying for it!

Michigan is nice to antique car owners. With antique plates you pay $35 and it is good for as long as you own the car. Doesn't get much better in a tax crazy world1

Re: Registration Fee$$$
In the state of Washington, I paid a fee for transferring the title and for the sales tax when I bought the car. After that, no annual registration fee on historic vehicle, but annual driving restrictions do apply. For instance, not supposed to be driving back and forth to work, stores of stuff like that.

They really are only five bucks, and only are issued for pre war cars and trucks, and are limited to club functions, etc. Sorry, for the confusion. I didn't mean collector plates, which, as you say, are twice the regular price, but for the life of ownership of your car. 52 pickup is doing great. Drove it to our daughter's house today for a visit. Everybody wants to buy it, but you are on the top of the list when the time comes, since it was yours in the first place. Very nice to hear from you. And you take care of that fabulous AA dump truck! mike ______________ |

Re: Registration Fee$$$
Idaho "Classic" or "Old Timer" $25 one time fee - good for the lifetime of the vehicle - as long as it is older than 1943 and not heavily modified.

Re: Registration Fee$$$
You guys complaining about your state's fees.....
Out here in California, we pay the highest vehicle registration fees in the country. I have 5 cars, all come due in January. It will be about $900 for the registration renewals this time. And, like Fullraceflathead said, they are going to be even higher next renewal. Our governor never met a fee or tax he didn't like. Here is the renewal bills for the Model A's. They go up every year! |

Vehicle registration fees for pre war vehicles in New York and California are punitive. How many pre war cars do you ever see on the road besides yours? Zero to none, right? So based on useage, how much road damage and/or pollution do our old cars create? Just about none at all. Wisconsin is 5 bucks for life of ownership with some restrictions. Should be that way in all states. Call your state representative. |

Re: Registration Fee$$$
Thanks for rubbing it in, Mike!
Actually, the fees shown in my registration invoices above have no restrictions, unlike the antique plates for $5 you mentioned and linked. Wife and I drive Model A’s very frequently for club activities and sometimes just a nice drive for ice cream. According to your state’s website, 99% of our Model A driving would be against the law. So, to compare apples with apples, what would it cost in your state to license a Model A for unrestricted driving? |

I may be incorrect, but if you drive your Model A only for pleasure, ( ice cream, club events, etc, and NOT for commuting to work, you would be legal in Wisconsin. Five dollar plate for life. Otherwise, you would be looking at a Collector's plate. Stew Masche described Wisconsin collector plates very well on the first page. Big bucks. Perhaps another Wisconsin resident could chime in here? mike |

Re: Registration Fee$$$
For you folks with the low license fees, are your cars taxed as personal property by the local tax accessor? I thought that was the case in many states with low license fees. Many years ago that was the case for a neighbor who moved to Tenn.
Just curious. Ed |

Re: Registration Fee$$$
Kentucky Antique plate one time fee. Yearly Personal Property tax. Varies by county.
I had one car the tax bill was .61 cents then they upgraded their software and next year 56 bucks! Do not even think about a new car..after sales tax and personal property tax! |

Re: Registration Fee$$$
In Arizona the registration fee is cheap , about $20, but if you plan on using your "Historic Vehicle" plate (which you already paid extra for) they charge you an additional $10 special plate fee each year. My last one year renewal was $30.24, no complaints here.

Re: Registration Fee$$$
Virginia: One time $50.00 registration fee which is classified "permanent". Application has a signature requirement that the vehicle is maintained in safe working order.
License plates (both front & rear): Option 1 - year of issue plates (matches model year) which must be presented with the registration application. Option 2 - two styles of state "Antique" plates to chose from and are provided at no extra charge. Driving restrictions are similar to other states. (Yes, ice cream runs are allowed) |

Re: Registration Fee$$$
I live in a rural county in Virginia with no personal property tax on older vehicles. I believe 25 yrs or older is the bench mark. My four Model As are all worth more than my daily drivers, waiting for the politicians to realize that. They are always looking for ways to raise money so they can give it away... and as said lifetime antique plate is 50.00 for as long as you own it.
