Re: model a /c4 automatic
Use the "search" function and you will find a lot of information. If it is being done for medical reasons people are generally 100% in favor of doing it. Other reasons don't get much support. If I had a need I would use a modern 4 cylinder engine that came with the modern transmission.

If I was going to do that, I'd use the 2.3 or 2.5 which are bored and stroked versions of the 2.0 - higher HP and potential for upgrading to even more. I think a C4 will fit them - if not, I'm sure adapters are available. |

Re: model a /c4 automatic
If you do use a Pinto engine, just use a stock Model A muffler, and it will sound almost the same as a Model A engine.

I have a '32 roadster with a Chevy II engine but its is hooked up to the early Ford transmission. I put it in 40 years ago because at that time I couldn't find any shop to do a good job rebuilding the original engine. If I was doing it today I would use an original engine with a little speed equipment. Charlie Stephens |

We used an A4LD out of a Ford Ranger Pick Up, has an overdrive and is working really well for us.

Re: model a /c4 automatic
Can't help you with a C-4, but check Bendtsen's for a GM 700R4 adaptor (among others). I bet that 4 speed O/D auto would work pretty nice.

Re: model a /c4 automatic
I had a '31 with a 2000 pinto mated to a stock A tranny and muffler. Not a good combo because the pinto rev's too high for easy shifting without snychromesh. The prior owner/ installer should have used the pinto manual or automatic. Now someone else has that car.

Re: model a /c4 automatic
I would stay with the Model A engine, the others do not have much torque. However, I do have a 180 CID Chevy commercial engine that I would willingly part with. It is like a Chevy-2 but with a 4" bore, and more torque.

Re: model a /c4 automatic
With all the adapters he has listed, I doubt he has much time to piddle around with a website. Best to give him a call and ask.
