Default 1937 Transmission Synchronizers

I'm in the process of pulling the engine and transmission on my 37 coupe to clean and reseal the engine and transmission as well as replace the clutch and pressure plate. While I had them out, I wanted to go through the transmission and after inspection, replace the synchronizers. I have exhausted the typical suppliers in my search and only see these being available for the 39 and up transmission. Am I missing something. Is there a source for these that you can share. Thanks in advance. Nate Anello

Are you implying that Mac VanPelt does not have the quality pieces that you need? Contact Mac VanPelt at the link BELOW!

I have checked Vanpelts, C&G, Thirdgen, Early ford Store, CW Moss Mac's etc websites and see no listings for just the synchronizers. I would assume that the one Michael has listed as rebuilt, would have good used synchronizers. Just can't believe that no one has any new, NOS or reproductions for this model of transmission. I can call VanPelt on Monday but would assume if they had them, they'd be listed on the site.

Coop, Thanks for that link. So I do see this listing on this vanpelts link
48-7124 Synchronizer Assy (6 ball and spring type) (35-39) Listing for new Assy at a cost of 225.00

But do not see just the synchronizers.

I was looking at this site which I assume is their new site. That's where I landed and didn't see it there

https://www.vanpeltsalesstore.com/

I'll call them and confirm Thanks again Nate

I purchased the rebuilt synchronizer assembly from Michael at Third Gen for my '34 and I'm really pleased with it. I works flawlessly...

At Third Gen > https://www.ebay.com/itm/39166588793...Bk9SR4qzoauJYQ

This is for a very hard to find B-7108 Synchronizer hub for the 1932-39 Ford transmission. This is the 6 ball and spring type. These are not reproduced. This is the part that slows the main drive and intermediate gear down upon shifting or downshifting (one of the most critical parts of the trans for smooth shifting). The brass rings built into it are commonly worn in used transmissions. These are NOS Genuine Ford and have been cleaned, inspection and fitted to a NOS Mainshaft, intermediate gear, and main drive gear to ensure they are perfect, as many times NOS parts are damaged from years of tossing around.

US $147.20

Pete, Thanks for the referral on Michaels part, I have always been please with everything I have purchased from him. At this time, when I go to shift, it's depress clutch and count to four then shift. Just looking for a smoother operation.

I just go to VanPelt Sales. He has two separate parts to the site. This link is to the parts prices. Just look for the P/N 48-7124.

Pete Thanks for the referral on Michaels part. I have always been pleased with everything I have purchased from him in the past. At this point, I'm just looking for a smoother operating transmission. Now it's depress clutch, count to four, then shift.

After looking through some old post, I found one from Terry,OH from 2013 that said,

The 37 syncro does not have replacable syncro rings. They are part of the inner syncro hub. They should not fall out or rotate in the hub.

So sorry for the confusion on my part. I thought there were replaceable brass syncro rings in the 37 like the 39. Had I pulled the top off, before my first post, I would have been better informed. Please excuse my ignorance. All your input is appreciated as always. I'll purchase the synchronizer assembly. Nate

I'm glad I read this. I'm looking at going into my 37 trans this winter and thought it was same as the 39.

The 81A-7107 part number is for the separate brass (actually bronze) synchronizer ring as developed for the 1939 and newer transmissions. Those did use the separate type rings. As the other fellows have stated above, the 32-38 synchronizer assembly did not have the separate rings…..they were manufactured into the synchro hub assembly and were never sold as a service part.

A key part of the older style synchro assembly are the six springs. They have a particular compression rating to them. You should never use the springs that were developed for the 39-42 type synchro assembly as they were made with a lighter compression rating. We had the springs reproduced, to the original factory specifications, made in the USA.

Mac VP, Thanks for the reply and the clarification. Once I get a little farther along, I'll place an order. I did order the book The In's and Outs of early ford transmissions from your site yesterday, looks like it shipped today. Thanks Nate Anello
