Search this forum...from the menu in red right above the posts.

I think I answered my own question. I can do it under "advanced search" can't I?

"Search"
"Advanced" scroll down to "search forums"

Is there a proper way to search?
I went advanced and asked for Model B in the title only, in the Model A forum only The results? Only 2 out of 25 had B in the title! ALSO TRIED Model+B, same results |

Re: Is there a way to search for posts on the Model A forum ONLY?
I searched the Model A page just under the page number is "Search this Forum" and got
"The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search: B" My conclusion? The search does not work |

The Search function definitely has some querks to it, no doubt about it.
Using the Advanced Search function for "Model B" (type in the quotation marks) and then selecting In Titles Only, I get 78 threads to come up when the search is specified for the Model A Forum only. Not sure if this gets them all or not but will get you started anyways. Give it another try. |

Re: Is there a way to search for posts on the Model A forum ONLY?
I think the v8 site would have model "B" stuff. The model "B" stuff is listed in the v8 catalogs and not the "A" catalogs. This is just a thought and they are probably listed in both forums on this site.

Why would you look for Model B on the Model A Forum?

Thanks to the help I received here I can attempt to answer your question. 1. First click on either Search or Search this Forum. 2. Then click on Advanced Search. (this is where the magic happens!) 3. Then in the keywords box enter "model b" (CAPS or no caps doesn't matter but be sure to include the quotes...that's the trick. If you don't put the quotes it you get over 500 results, which I think is the forum maximum result. Putting the quotes means you will only get the posts that have model b in them. NOT putting the quotes means you will get every post with the word model OR the word b in them....BIG difference!) 4. Directly below this area change 'Search Entire Posts' to 'Search Titles Only'. (this narrows it down to only those posts that have model b in the title. Again, a BIG difference (400 vs 78)) 5. Then below in the big box to the right - 'Search in Forum(s) select Model A under the General Discussion section. If you do this and accept all the rest of the defaults it will come back with about 78 results. This is a MUCH BETTER result than the 500 it started with. You can further refine your search by choosing to 'Find Threads with At Least 5 Replies'. This knocks it down to only 39 responses. At least that is how I have found to best narrow my searches when researching the old threads. Don't you just love the internet... What a resource. Thanks FORD BARN!!!! It appears Randy in ca and Milton know how to say things using a lot less words than I... Last edited by buyitsmart; 12-04-2011 at 11:24 PM. Reason: beat to the punch... |

"Model B" including the quotation marks in the Search by Keyword field and click on General Discussion Model-A (1928-31) in the Search in Forum(s) field. This is under Advanced Search.
The quote marks are equivalent to Model+B except it works. Oops, missed it by four minutes. |
