Default 32 Vintique Fuel Tank question

Has anyone had problems with sending unit in Vintique fuel tank not allowing body to fully rest on frame rails? if so, any suggestions

Do you mean that it is hanging up on the underside of the floor of the body? If so, perhaps the configuration of your two-most-reward body mounting attachments may be contributing to the problem.

I always have to shim the back body bolt on each side for clearance, between the body and the sending unit. Usually about 3/16"

I have a 32 Tudor sedan and use a Vintiques tank.
NO problems, just wish I had gotten the larger capacity tank

Checked clearance of sending unit post and it is not touching floor. Pick up tube assembly which is a repop and it seems to be touching floor. I do have shims under the last two body mount bolts on each side. 1/8 in front and 3/16 in back

When I installed new subrails and floor I used an original fuel tank. Tried to get that tank restored and did not come out well, so I went with Vintique. I did have to notch one of the mounting holes on the tank to make it fit

I have used the Vintique 16 gallon tank in my avatar and a 5-window project I am working on now. Most original looking tank on the market ...

This tank required a left hand sending unit as a baffle a nside the tank gets in the way of a right hand unit. I would call Vintique but I think I still have the paper work on the sending unit ..... will check tomorrow .....

Reading between the lines here I wonder if how the '32 bodies were originally mounted on the chassis frames may not be common knowledge. m.ralph touches on the subject.

There was no body-to-frame webbing after the kick up in the frame for the rear axle. Both the next-to-last and last body to frame attachments included a fabric-reinforced rubber pad. The next-to-last pad was 1/8" thick and the rear-most pad was 1/4" thick. Even with reproduction bodies and frames, if they're faithful reproductions that's the way they should be mounted.

Even before the end of the model year, stress cracks were appearing at the corners of the lower back and quarter panels of some coupes and roadsters and even some sedans which led to the reinforcing of both the frames and the bodies and adoption of a spring-loaded rear body to frame bolt (like the way radiators were attached) at the rear corners. While much of that problem could be attributed to rough roads of the period, it is still a wise precaution for a car likely to be driven extensively.

Having written the above earlier, seeing Lou's latest suggests the problem lies elsewhere.

I always use the radiator spring Bolt on the rear body mount bolt!
