Default Need Electric Wiper Info

At some point in the past my 29 tudor was switched to a vacuum windshield wiper. I plan on switching it back to an electric eliminating that problematic vacuum line. I have (picture 1) a nice intake manifold with no vacuum opening (I do not know when it was originally used, but I like the idea no place for a vacuum leak.)

When I can get them for under $40 I have been picking up electric wiper motors on eBay to take apart ( I like taking things apart! ), clean, learn how they work, and hopefully get working. I have restored the transmission of a Heinz wiper (picture 2) and found its operation to be interesting and quite beautiful. A fiber gear driven by the electric motor drives a big brass gear with a crank on the back, which in turn drives a "rack" gear which meshes with a pinion gear on the wiper shaft causing it to go back and forth.

I've got the electric motor part cleaned up and I hopefully ready to work.

So I pretty much understand how the electric wipers work. What I can't quite wrap my head around is how they are installed on the car. When mounted on the outside as I thought they were, all the the shafts including the oscillating wiper shaft point toward the inside of the car. So obviously I am confused! I would greatly appreciate any pictures or diagrams of how the electric wipers were installed and wired. Thanks in advance!

BTW I know that my primary defense against rain will actually be "Rain-X" and the electric wiper will be primarily for show, but I'd still like to get it working properly.

Following. My electric wiper on the 28 CCPU stopped working. Took it apart for cleaning and lube to no avail. There is a draw on the ampmeter when the switch is turned on, but no idea how to trouble shoot.

The wiper does mount on the outside. It has rubber pads and metal covers on the mounting legs. The wiper arm is fastened to the shaft near the motor. The hand lever is screwed to the shaft on the inside of the windshield.

I have just installed a Heinze wiper on my Town Sedan. See pictures in http://www.fordmodela.com/restoratio...dshield-wiper/.
Not sure about the correct path and fastening/attachement for the electric wire, but the routing should be ok.

Thanks so much. The pictures answered many of my questions. Is the wiper grounded (positive connection) though that copper strip by the right mounting arm? Where would the negative lead be attached?

Model A wipers are decoration. Rainex is much better.

The negative lead is attached to the shortest stud that sticks out the back.

Well, we now know you did not bother to read my entire question:

"BTW I know that my primary defense against rain will actually be "Rain-X" and the electric wiper will be primarily for show, but I'd still like to get it working properly."

That's OK as a retired middle school teacher of 35 years I am used to it!
