Thinking of buying a Model T
I currently own a 1931 Model A coupe but are considering buying a Model T to play with. I have my eye on a fully restored 1923 Speedster but can't find any pictures online that resemble this restored one. I would like to buy one that resembles the stock look as much as possible. Does anyone have a picture of what a stock 1923 speedster should look like? Was there different versions or models for this year?
Any key things to look for on purchasing a Model T that I should be aware of other than the comon sense stuff - thanks |

Re: Thinking of buying a Model T
Ford never made a factory speedster. There were aftermarket speedster body builders or they were just homemade.

Ok, I see that's why there are not two exactly the same. I will keep looking as I would like something more factory stock, thanks

Re: Thinking of buying a Model T
Keep in mind these are Model T's. Not Model A's. You really have to wrap your mind around what you are driving when operating it. And they mostly don't perform like a traditional car such as a Model A. I have both. And then some. I find the T's are a delight to put around in good weather. The A or 30's are something I would be much more confident in driving anywhere anytime. Find a local club and go for rides to get a better sense of what I am saying. Suggestion.

Re: Thinking of buying a Model T
As stated above, there is no such thing as a stock speedster. Every one was different. Are you looking for a runabout/roadster, that would be a different matter.
A speedster could be anything from 2 bucket seats on a plywood platform to full race car and anything in between. It could be a stock engine to duel over head cam engine. How it was built was up to how deep the builders pockets were or what their goal was. The Northwest Vintage Speedster club has a good web site with lots of photos in the gallery to give you some ideas. http://www.nwvs.org/ |
