Default V12 into Model A frame....

Hey guys,
I did search, found nothing, but that's probably cause I'm most likely not using it correctly !
Need someone/info,etc... who has put a flathead V12 into a model a frame. Is it doable/too much trouble/ what? Would really like to communicate with someone who has done this work. Thanks for any help.

Can't quote what a V-12 weighs, but a V-8, driven sanely (whatever that means) is probably on the edge of "taxing" an un-boxed A-bone frame. Don't forget either, that an A radiator and firewall would probably be MUCHO in the way. Interesting to fantasize about, though. What are ya "fantasizing" about doin'? DD

Ever hear of the 'Hot Rod Lincoln'? Try a google - should find the song, and also the car. I believe the car (Model A, V12) was recently sold at Barrett Jackson????

I saw this car while on holiday in New Zealand. They had extended the chassis to make the V12 fit.

The original Hot Rod Lincoln was built on a shortened Lincoln chassis with a Model A coupe body placed appropriately on the frame.

Best bet is to get on HAMB site as posted earlier. There are a few A's with V-12's in them over there.
Post in the Traditional Hot Rod Forum.

There is a guy right here who has done that. His name is Frenchy Dehoux, he is also on the Hamb. I'm sure he will chime in, or you could PM him.

Hey DD,
You hit the 'nail' on the head...fantasizing..indeed !
Thanks to all you guys for input and pics..oh man those pics got the juices flowing ! Yeah, a bud here referenced frenchys' '32 w/v12..nice! I can imagine how it would more easily fit in the 32 frame..than model a frame. I have a chance to acquire a rebuilt v12 and have always loved the sounds/music they emit. You guys are the best, but I will visit the hamb for more detail/whatever is available. I think that I may go for it..although getting long in the tooth !

BTW, I'd appreciate any opinions/input on what you think a fair $ amount would be for a rebuilt V12..nothing fancy added.

Oh, on you statement about taxing a stock model a frame. Old Henry was a marvelous engineer. When younger.....many decades ago....I had a bowtie 265" with two afb in a stock model a frame. Lasted a long time..driven sanely, until I loaned it one night to a heavy footed 'friend'. He took it to Hollywood Blvd on a Friday night and blew off ..even motorcycles..he said. Ruined that roadsters frame for sure..but it was unboxed!!

If you rebuild the engine yourself and just have the machine shop work farmed out, you should be able to build a stock V 12 for about $4,000 or less. If you have one done by a "professional", expect to pay between $5,000 and $10,000 providing you have all the bolt on parts like the carb, gen, starter, manifolds, and water pumps etc.

Not sure why you would do this as the stock Model A engine with a Snyder HC head will probably power the "A" better than the V12. They were doggy then.... it's probably not too much better than installing a 60.. and weights a lot more along with the install issues. Again.. stick with a stock "A" engine.

Hey frenchy,
You just wake up form a long winter's nape...as in...this thread is FOUR yrs old !
Well, since we're here and to answer DDs long past question, I had put together this eye candied V12 with polished Zepher alum heads, a polished 3 pot custom made alum intake with 3 rebuilt 81s , by Uncle Max. Polished V12 alum distributor and on / on.
Realized that I have no metal fab skills and not the $ to have others build stuff so that I could make a dream come true....so. The engine went back east to a gentleman who has a '34 roadster in beautiful condition....only needing such engine to top it off. Whaahh...he had enough $ to make me give in...still regretting that !

Anyway, have been on the lookout for someone's completed project with a V12, since then.
Seems it's true....old threads never die, ha !
