Default Painting

in the Ford guidelines book, has two places that explains what color black to paint undercarriage and engine parts. They contradict each other

Engine finishes are black, dull black, raven, and terne ?

Undercarriage finishes are satin black, semi-gloss, gloss, and raven.

Can anyone help me out so I can make my car ready for judging?

Let me start with raven and terne, these are not paint. Terne is a lead and tin coating. Raven finish is like modern day parkerizing or Phosphating.

Now lets move to the engine finishes, yea the chart is not really clear as to what king of black and the actual description of some of the parts are not real clear as to what black is or even how it was painted that would give you some answers. As an example, just about anything dipped would be gloss.

In the book there is a sentence, "Vehicles will be judged against the
finishes set forth in the applicable Ford parts price list book
for the year involved when not specified here
."

To best figure the color I think you will need to get the other book mentioned, Ford parts price list.

Ok, I know that really does not help you now. Maybe if you list a specific part that does not have a specific color we can help. (the engine section is 18 pages after all).

Chassis, this chart seems pretty clear but again, please ask here for specifics.
