Pendine Prep 11. Top end tidy up. Cylinder heads milled and fitted.
Hello and welcome to Mart's Garage. In this week's video I show setting up the heads for milling, taking 30 thou off them and getting them installed. Thanks to Casey at @Crazy Casey’s Customs for the bolt painting tip. It certainly improves the looks.
I hope you find it interesting, it's another step in the right direction in getting the car ready for racing on the beach at Pendine. https://youtu.be/kCGTI7HUb4U |

Mart thanks for the video, I sent you an off topic pm a few weeks ago, hopefully it didn’t get lost.

Thanks Vette. It didn't get lost, I just didn't know how to answer! Reply sent now.

Nice job Mart. Good looking isn't it? Bet she'll run GR8.

Mart, you make no clarifying comment in your video regarding whether or not you did any measuring for quench or valve to head clearances. Could you comment a bit on what assumptions were made, and why? I think it to be important for those that are not starting with new heads, but used heads.

I measured all the piston crown to head dome clearances with the Edelbrock and Offenhauser heads. I used aluminium foil balls. The clearances came out at 80 thou or a little over. I checked over the valves and it was greater than 80 thou. Can't remember exactly without checking the raw footage. I remember 40 thou is quoted as optimum but didn't feel brave enough to shoot straight for that so took 30 thou off to achieve a theoretical squish of 50 thou. I imagine it might be tighter in reality after head gasket torqueing. I'm not an engine builder and just go with what feels right at the time. If I make a mistake I am prepared to fix it. Hope this helps. Mart. |
