39 engine Swap
Hi Gents
Stock 39 coupe. What road blocks or challenges would I encounter, taking out the EAB and re placing with a 1950 flatty? In example: Will there be any fan to hose clearance issues? Will oil pan fit without cutting? Can I reuse any existing part, like manifold with dual carbs. Can I reuse radiator? Will it mount to stock 39 tranny?

Re: 39 engine Swap
The basic engines are identical. If you use the components from the present "EAB" (bellhousing, clutch, water pumps, and perhaps the fan and generator) it should be a simple "bolt-in" project. If the heads on the '50 are stock, I would swap the heads from the "EAB" as well; they will give you more compression.

Re: 39 engine Swap
Wow thanks I didn’t think it was that easy.
Parts like manifold, radiator, starter are all interchangeable?

Re: 39 engine Swap
30-9: I sent you a PM listing a very pertinent thread. Also, read ALL this.
https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...=8ba+1936+ford Photo is of an 8BA with early style heads in a 40 Ford. Do a complete search on Fordbarn and HAMB and Google. |

Re: 39 engine Swap
Since the car already has an 8BA type engine installed, I think all of that may be sensory overload for someone in his situation.

So if fordy is right it’s way over my ability to do myself. Even being a young 84, with a lot of years left in me. I do wish you were right I would have done it.

Re: 39 engine Swap
No No No. I said 8BA type engine. An EAB is the exactly the same except that it has higher compression heads (and a few internal changes that will be inconsequential for your purposes). If you are referring to actual physical ability, I will have to defer to you as you know your limitations better than I do. If you are referring to the ability to figure out what needs to be done and how to do it, if you have any mechanical skills at all, you should be able to "get 'er done".

Re: 39 engine Swap
Great so the hoses, motor mounts, fan and oil pan are not an issue. No welding needed.
I’m in and will move forward with swap. I’ll also as you suggested use My current EAB heads. Also reuse radiator. manifold and dual carbs! THANKs.

Re: 39 engine Swap
On a deal like this, I consider rubber parts (hoses, belts, motor mounts) as "consumables". They're not that expensive, and you'll never have a better chance to replace them. If everything was replaced when the "EAB" was installed and it's all is in good condition, you can ignore this last bit of advice.

Re: 39 engine Swap
Yes agreed, I meant they will line-up and fit and not need any fabrication.
Thanks Again, a new project begins

Re: 39 engine Swap
30-9: There is no doubt you can do it. Just take it one step at a time and move forward. My goal was to share what I gleaned from my experience and research so that you wouldn't get "blind sided" by the unknowns. Better to have tons of info. so that you can pick, choose, refuse and plan out your project. Take plenty of photos and let us know how it's going. Lots of folks here who can help. Here's where I started. Stock 8BA with a 2 barrel that made it from WI to FL. in 1972.

Re: 39 engine Swap
Lining these up has never been an automatic task; with the torque tube, steady rods, and motor mounts, you might be into a little "wiggle action", but everything is the same. New motor mounts can complicate things a little as well.
