Turn Signals . . . Your Thoughts
How do you all feel about putting turn signals on your Model A. I just finished installing mine and I am still undecided how I feel about it. But, people are so distracted today on the road, I can only imagine someone "may" miss hitting me if they see the blinker in their peripheral vision.

Re: Turn Signals . . . Your Thoughts
I wouldn’t drive my Model A like I do without turn signals and two taillights. Folks today do not understand arm signals.....

Re: Turn Signals . . . Your Thoughts
I first tried driving my Ford using only hand signals. Today's drivers think you are waving.
The indicators are a must in today's traffic. |

Re: Turn Signals . . . Your Thoughts
I have them, and I feel safer having them. People in general do not look for hand signals and most dont even know about them.

Re: Turn Signals . . . Your Thoughts
I have them on my Model T and they came on my 48 F2. If l owned a Model A it would have them too.

Re: Turn Signals . . . Your Thoughts
I have them on one, but not the other two. I will add them as time allows, I don't like the looks of the bumper mounts,. so will convert the cowl lights on one and add them on the other. It is such a pain to roll down the window, and signal, while you are trying to steer and downshift. and my hand gets cold!

I wouldn't consider driving my A without them. Today's drivers are nuts!

Re: Turn Signals . . . Your Thoughts
I haven't yet, but it's only a matter of time before I put them on my car. A couple weeks ago I was at a red light and was going to make a right turn, opposite me was a policeman. As I signaled a right turn the policeman waved at me! If anyone should have known my signal, it should have been him!

Re: Turn Signals . . . Your Thoughts
I have driven in Aust. & live in NZ. Drivers here in NZ are far worse & maybe half never use indicators, especially when passing or sometimes turning. I feel if they are 'distracted' & can not determine an old slow moving car up ahead, having indicators, flashing lights or whatever will make little difference. I always use hand signals & most drivers understand them as they are taught here in the road code. I stay off main highways & busy roads. These old cars have their inherent dangers, so whatever I drive, it is with care.

Re: Turn Signals . . . Your Thoughts
Another tweak when adding turn signals is I added an inexpensive piezo beeper to the flasher unit so when activated there's a soft beeping sound. Otherwise I find myself forgetting to turn the signals off occasionally. Pretty easy to add to any turn signal setup. Under $3 on EBAY

I switch the front flashers with the tail lights.

Re: Turn Signals . . . Your Thoughts
Here in Newfoundland Canada you have to have signal lights for Motor Vehicle Inspection purposes. Also it would be suicide to drive without them.

IMHO, they are a basic requirement.

Re: Turn Signals . . . Your Thoughts
I don't like them. They are not original looking at all. We have hand signals. HOWEVER, after I finished my car and took it for a short drive, I put them on my car. It is better to be safe. There are way too many dumb drivers out there.

Re: Turn Signals . . . Your Thoughts
That was a concern . . . staying original as possible. But I'm sure there's very few out there who know what is and what is not original for these cars. Safety First. I'm also putting seatbelts in. oh pooo.

Re: Turn Signals . . . Your Thoughts
Yellow left handed glove left over from the "Honor Guard" service works for me - so far.
Signalling a right turn it helps if one holds the hand/arm outstretched to the left and palm back, then raises the arm vertical and points right with the index finger. But that is all "gestures" attempting to convey more information simply in an I-Phone screen age. Ever watch a good intersection cop direct traffic? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVJ8xR3F7uU Joe K
