Default Trim intake gasket?

Have any of you had to trim an intake gasket? I am installing a Dennis Carpenter gasket an the gasket overlaps the ports in some places as much as 1/8 of an inch. The ports have been ported and polished so I guess that is why. But I guess that is the way to proceed, trim them as close as I can to match, right?

May be wrong but I have always either trimmed the gasket or ground the port to match up. Don't want any of that precious fluid sitting on top of a gasket ledge. LOL

I always carry it even further. Not only to I modify the gasket to match the ports, but on raised deck blocks, I match the manifold edge contours. Makes for a real clean looking installation.

OK thanks, I'd never heard of having to do it before. I just needed some confirmation before I did something wrong.

Some gaskets are harder to trim than others. BEST make a good gasket to trim. Walt
