Tool for checking Torque Tube alignment
FYI, I am puting a 40 rear in my 32 and using a 34 torque tube and driveshaft. The tube had to be shortened and the flange needed to be bored out to fit the later rear. I made a tool to check alignment. It is a piece of 1" pipe with a 3/8" thick flange welded on. The flange was turned true and an alignment bushing was made to fit the seal retaining flange.

Re: Tool for checking Torque Tube alignment
That is a nice tool. That would check the torque tube align with out putting it on the banjo with the driveshaft. Good luck.

Re: Tool for checking Torque Tube alignment
What was odd was when I put the end of the torque tube in the lathe. I was going to pare it off so left the about a foot of tube on the flange. It wobbled! The end was swinging around about 1/4 tir at least. It was tight and square in the lathe. It showed no signs of being bent. Factory defect?

Your tool would be good to do this to set it up to weld.I tried the angle iron method and could not get it aligned. Before you took it apart was the drive shaft centered. If so the tube was not bent. I had someone do mine on a jig and he cut the flange off within an inch or 2 and welded it. It was a little off still so he ran two lengthwise beads next to each other near the flange and that pulled it into perfect alignment.Ground off you could not even see the welds. I don't know if this helps with your question. John Last edited by john in illinois; 03-06-2016 at 09:01 AM. |
