1941 ford fender skirt info
Hi guys I am intending to buy these skirts from e bay. They are 41 ford. My question is. How do they attach to the rear with the hardware seen on the skirts. I haven't seen these type before . And does any one know if they will fit a deluxe coupe ? Thanks for the help

Re: 1941 ford fender skirt info
Many of the old FoMoCo cars that had factory skirts just had a tension fit to the fender well. Two lower fittings and a center locking rod that was rotated and hooked around the slower skirt lip to hold it locked in place.
I'm not familiar with skirts for the 41 models but it appears to be a similar to the later cars. It looks like they used flat metal stock to form the fittings & latch piece instead of formed heavy rod stock like the later 40s & 50s FoMoCo cars used to secure it to the fender. It also looks like one end is fastened to the rocker panel but I can't tell for sure. That would make it a b!tch to remove. Many of these items were made by aftermarket companies. Some were well engineered and some are not. I'm sure they can be made to fit OK if they are indeed for a 41 car or perhaps a later 42 thru 48 car. They generally follow the contour shape of the fender opening pretty closely. Last edited by rotorwrench; 03-04-2016 at 04:26 PM. |

The metal bar is pivoted in the middle and rotates to a locked and unlocked position. I have these on my '47.

Re: 1941 ford fender skirt info
The skirts you pictured are very similar to the skirts I'm restoring right now on
my 1948 Lincoln Continental Coupe. The Lincoln skirts are a little bigger in length and width. On the Lincoln there was mud and debris packed under the locking bar, which rusted thru . I derusted completely and ground off the 5 rivets. The lower clamps look similar but are totally adjustable. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!! If this is not done correctly, you may look in your rear view mirror and see your skirt bouncing down the road. The locking bar rubs against the upper lip of the fender. Good Luck |
