Default Paint colors for a 29 CCPU

There was a question in Ken Ehrenhofer's Tech Tips column in Model A News - Mar/Apr 2013 about the paint color used for various 29 CCPU items. The section about the paint question is pasted in below. What I am concerned about is the interior color several items are painted. Ken listed the dash and windshield garnish as painted black along with the door window frames and door garnish. I believe the door items are painted black, like he stated. There seems to be a discrepancy with what the Model A Ford Paint & Finish Guide states for the dash and windshield garnish. On page 9 of the Paint & Finish Guide it states commercial vehicles dashes and windshield garnish is painted body color. Page 9 of the Paint & Finish Guide is pasted below the Model A News information. If someone can post a response as to what was the factory color used on the items listed in the Model A News article, that would be great. That would clear up the conflict between the Model A News information and the Paint & Finish Guide information. I would think the dash and windshield garnish would be painted body color, like coupes and tudors and not black.

Hi Rusty,

Here's some earlier discussion on this subject, have you seen this?

I think generally, the body was painted as a unit - including the "pocket" in the body panel behind the seat. This unit was usually assembled, and then painted without rubbing out with finish color, typically the Rock Moss Green.

Parts applied afterwards, including windshield, window garnish molding (upside down "U"), the door pull/shelves, the dash rail, the windshield corner garnish, the rear window retainer were all painted gloss black, probably by dipping.

Quick and um, not so clean was the modus for Ford Truck assembly. Not to say there were not exceptions either in early vehicles (before market acceptance/production expediencies were developed) or in vehicles headed for fleet or other customers who might specify a certain color requirement or standard of quality.
