Re: Marvel is my favorite carburetor!
Thanks guys, I didn't know about the simpler two jet configuration. I can see how the side-hung float design would be an operational improvement too. It seems like the Marvel has a larger float bowl than Zenith or Tillotson, or is it my imagination? If so, would that have anything to do with better performance, i.e. more fuel volume/pressure to work with?

Re: Marvel is my favorite carburetor!
I really like the Marvel and agree with all of the above positive comments. I have been running my Marvel for about 4 years. I have brand new professionally rebuilt Zenith and it is my spare under the seat.
Post #13 says he has a Marvel that leaks. Send it back Texas and they will fix it. It is true that JR, former owner of the carb shop, passed away from COVID a while back. He was a stand up guy. JR's son, Gary Johnspon, has taken over the business and carries on his father's tradition of good service. In addition to rebuilding and selling Marvels, they also rebuild and sell Zeniths and Tollotsons. They test run every carb they sell on a Model A prior to shipping. The last Marvel I purchased from him was $200 with no exchange. Here is their contact information: Gary Johnspon 976 Country Road 2310 Texarkana, TX 75503 Phone: 903-490-3726 Email: [email protected] Best of luck, Dick M |

Re: Marvel is my favorite carburetor!
One thing to remember is to not over tighten the screws on A Marvel or you are sure to warp the top causing it to leak.
As I have posted in the past, I cut my own gaskets from 1/16" Buta-N/cork and tighten the screws only until the the lock washer flattens. The Buta-N/cork is softer than the paper gaskets in the kits and I find seals better. Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 11-09-2022 at 03:29 PM. Reason: Corrected spelling... I hate auto correct! |

Re: Marvel is my favorite carburetor!
For those that don't know, Marvel Scheduler is still in business today making carburetors for airplanes and tractors.

Re: Marvel is my favorite carburetor!
I find the MS more responsive then the other 2 carbs. I've been tearing up west Michigan all summer with my Roadster and have been very happy, in fact I drove it to work this morning! On a tour with my wife this summer we got around 17 mpg. I drive the car for pleasure not fuel efficiency, but curiosity got the best of me so I did the math....

Re: Marvel is my favorite carburetor!
The MS I have on the shelf is untested (by me) so I'd like to have it checked over. If I send it to one of those guys over there to do that, I'll never see it again. That is no aspersion on them, just that they couldn't send it back. If I take it to a carburettor guy here, he won't be able to get parts. Damned USPS!

Re: Marvel is my favorite carburetor!
This thread has really caught my attention and I am going pursue one for myself but since they have made many different models over the years I would appreciate it if one of you would tell me what model I should be looking for? Synchro, would it be possible for me to send a Renner’s rebuild kit to you? I have a niece living in Australia with her Australian husband who is an officer in your Air Force (sorry, right this moment I cannot remember where in your country they are) we can get stuff to her without much trouble.

Re: Marvel is my favorite carburetor!
I have not received a pm yet Synchro but then it has a long way to travel (that’s a joke). I did check and the niece I was referring to lives in Googong.

I just realised that this could be the first time a Marvel carburettor is on a F111!
