I'm in the process of installing a Lebaron Bonney headliner in my 46 sedan coupe. The instructions state, "If your original padding around the quarter window openings is gone, replace it with the jute padding supplied in the kit. Cut the jute into the widths needed and cement strips of the jute around the quarter window openings."

I'm not sure where they want me to put this. Any help?

There were jute strips on the door panels below the windows of my Tudor. They were about 2" wide by about 2' long. As I recall, they are on the same plane as the inside door handles. They seem intended to help with the door panel fitment keeping the panels firmly against the escutcheon rings.

On my '41 Fordor there was no padding around the quarter windows. Basically same windows you have. I'd think the quarter window would not fit with extra padding around it. Actually on mine, the rubber gasket is what holds the window in the body and it's quite a tight fit. Can't imagine an extra layer under the window frame inside.

You could try calling LB to get an explanation. Their people have been very helpful to me in the past.

I'm on my third day of installing the headliner without taking a photo. The instructions are 3 pages long and I've tried to upload them here two times but the system will not accept page 2. IF you would like me to send them email me at [email protected].

The first step is to install the windlace around the doors. After that you install the bows on the headliner and install them. Since all the material is hanging down at this point it makes it hard to see to take photos. I'll take my cell phone out and see what I can do today. SO far the hardest part is tacking the rear of the headliner along the tacking strip since there is not a lot of room. That's as far as I got yesterday. More to come today.

It took me and my wife 12 hrs to install the headliner in our '41 Fordor. We had the glass out so could pull the liner out thru the rear glass openning to pull it tight and and she started tucking around the top of the doors. Wasn't fun. Trick was how much to trim off the sides to tuck. Too much and too short. Too long and couldn't get material all in the tuck strips above the doors.
