Default Powergen Alternator Install Problem

I am helping a friend install the above alternator in his car.
43" belt won't fit.
44" one does but the alternator hits the lower radiator pipe when tightening it.
How can we keep it from hitting the lower pipe?
Is there a 43 1/2" od belt available?
Thanks.....Loubob

You should use a cog or segmented belt to allow the belt to ride down correctly in the pulley. This helps to pull the belt away from the lower pipe.

Give the supplier a call to see what they recommend.

On a stock Generator I remove the pulley, place the belt in the pulley groove and remount the pulley. This will allow you to use the smaller of the two belts you have tried. I've don't have any experience with the alts that look like generators to give definitive answers.

If your alternator has the "shackle like" bracket with two bolts, the bolts are both pivot points so you could rotate the bracket to a more vertical position to clear the lower hose.

In support of Ray, make sure the bolt going through the alternator is loose as that bracket can be swung around permitting lots of adjustment and fitting distances beyond the rotational one provided by the bolt at the engine.

How does your Powergen's pulley line up relative to the water pump's and the crank shaft's pullies?

I had some difficulty getting my belt back on when I installed my Powergen. I worked the belt on and tighten down on the mounting bolts. The belt wasn't too tight and it runs fine. You might want to force the smaller belt on and try it. From what I have heard is the belts need to be a little tighter on the alternator than on the generator anyways.

Yes to Katy.
We have a 43 1/2" cog belt on order to try. Top width of belt is 1/2".
44" Dayco a little loose. 43" Dayco a little short.
Shackle bracket won't work according to a club member that sells 'A' parts for years.
If ordered belts don't work, will try Mike V's suggestion & Ryan S. suggestion
*****Ryan: What belt # did you use?? Outside width and o.d. length please.
Ordered belts arrive on Wed.
Will advise on outcome.
Thank you all.

Loubob, the belt should be 5/8" wide, not 1/2", unless you've change the pulleys.

As I've never seen the Powermaster alternator, does it look like the OEM generator so far as dimensions? May be camera angle but the Summit photo makes it look shorter than the original generator.

I measured my belt to be 43" od as it sits installed and width of 5/8".

How about if you loosen the water pump bolts.
