Model A oil leak
Well I just started my 29 Model A for the first time and although it never leaked oil on my garage when I started it for the first time it darn near poured oil from between the pan and flywheel housing. Is it the seal. How hard to replace. I am a newbie.

Re: Model A oil leak
My first guess is the oil pan gasket slipped when putting it on.

Did you have the motor out? I have heard of people forgetting the gasket between the engine and flywheel cover.

Re: Model A oil leak
Since its not leaking out the hole on bottom of F-wheel hsg,it likely is leaking from either the rear of the pan gasket or a poor or no gasket between block & FW hsg.Clean off the area with some brake cleaner spray, fire up the engine & see where its leaking. If leaking from back of camshaft, engine will need to come out.If you need to replace gasket, remember to add shims equal to gasket thickness between top ears on FW hsg& block.

Stock engine has no rear crankshaft seal ... just a slinger and drain tube. This might help: http://antiqueenginerebuilding.com/REARMAINLEAK.html |

Re: Model A oil leak
I would run the engine for a bit .. let the oil level find itself .. it will probably stop leaking ... I run 4.5 quarts in our truck ( just below the full mark ) and it is fine .. anymore and she runs out the back like yours ..As Benson said , there is no rear oil seal on a stock engine

Might be the gasket is missing between the F/W housing and engine.
