Default exhaust popping

i have a popping i believe outof exhaust maybe carb also on my 1950 8BA, new, points and cond, cap rotor, wires plugs,i checked timeing and its about 1/4- 3/8 before tdc dot,the vacuume advance is not working due to wrong carb for loadomatic dist,i have the correct carb and it needs rebuilt, could a bad power valve due this? or could it be due to dist advance not working?i put a vacuum gauge and getting a 21 inch steady needle, the popping is mostly under acceleration in first and second and less in third, this engine is tired and will be replaced with a total rebuild this winter, just trying to make it till then..thanks al

wrong carb for loadamatic is the problem..
put the 3 bolt 94 carb on and hook up the vacuum advance, your problem is no advance. the stock carb & dist. will get you by until your plan to rebuild comes around.

The 8BA dont have an TDC indikator, the "point" mark is at 4 degrees TDC. And there is where the igntition shold be set.

Then you have the Dizzy problem mentioned above, but i dont think it should cause Exhaust popping.

Have you checked the wires and cap and rotor sparkplug's , so you you get a proper spark. If you start it up at night and look under the hood for sparks that should not be there.

Then you may have a carb problem, causing the engine to go lean when accelerating.
Have you checked the accelerator pump? If you can borrow a known good carb.

OlDskool. I have a 52 that was doing the sme thing. The new rat piss they call gasoline was causing the problem with the methanol the. Carb will need to be jetted out a little Mine was doing it only when the engine was at idle . Could be the fuel.
