Default Need help with clutch problem

Hi FORD BARNERS,
I have a 41 Ford Coupe.Something has happened to my clutch. It has been sitting in my Garage all summer. When I went to move it last week the clutch would not work. After I started the car it would not go into gear. All it would do is grind. When I shut the car off the gear shifter moved freely. If that is not bad enough the same exact thing happened to my 66 Chevy Belair. It too has a three speed on the column. What could be going on . Any and all help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe D

I'd check to make sure your clutch actuator shaft hasn't got a sheared pin with the throw out fork or actuator arm. Might be a throw out bearing failure or a pressure plate failure. Sometimes the plate will stick to the flywheel too.

Put the trans in gear Start engine with clutch disengaged this will tell you if disc is frozen up and will probably unfreeze it if that is the problem

The clutch disc is stuck to the flywheel due to condensation. Not uncommon when cars sit for an extended period of time. Do not start your car with it in gear unless you have nothing in front or back of you.

I hope the garage door is open and no one in front of or behind the car. If the car starts and clutch doesn't release.......

Probably a stuck clutch. Crank it up in gear, after you have a clear distance to run back or forward, when you get rolling, pop the clutch a few times and it should come un-stuck. Let us know what you find out.

Put the car in high gear, and hold the clutch down while some one rocks the car.
