Default Where to buy, Wiring Harness and Glass

For my 31 Slant Cabriolet.

Looking for current info as what I learned was over a year ago and I am ready to buy now.

Where to get the glass?

Yes I have tried the local guys will only get me laminated for side glass and I want tempered. Well let me qualify, to get the tempered glass it will be much more expensive then doing mail order.

A bunch of vendors offer laminated side glass, but I specifically am looking for tempered.

One source is Vintage Glass and some people in the past (over a year) gave positive comments. I am curious if that still holds.

Where to get the wiring harness?

Who makes something that looks correct (I am not doing points), but more important has correct wire gauge and properly connected ends?

In the past I have heard about Rhode Island Wiring and Sacramento Vintage. Who can relate some experiences to me. My car will have cowl lights and I am adding the right tail light.

Thanks!

I have not seen the others, but I was very happy with my wiring harnesses from Snyders.

Sacramento Vintage is where I got my wiring harness / turn signals, etc., very pleased with it. Everything was spot on for lengths, wire sizes, appearance, connectors, etc.

Hi Kevin,
I am suggesting you consider using your dual lamp headlight bulb as a parking light and the cowl lamps for turn signals while you are considering purchasing your lighting harness. I have found my cowl lamps quite adequate for signalling when I am at a traffic light which is about the only time they matter, and the parking lamps in the head light are great for dusk driving and for night parades when you do not want to blind the car ahead. I am also very pleased with my red LED panels in the taillites, but you might be more pure than that initially with your 68C.
Good Luck !

PS, that fellow used his 68C upholstery kit already.

I have no input on wiring yet!!But for glass I have had it cut and then they sent it out to be tempered price was good ..it wasnt a autoglass store ,it was a custom mirror store that also did storefront windows.and custom glass tops for furniture ..I had to supply patterns then I also pre fit the windows becuase after they are tempered you can not file or grind on them anymore

I used Snyders for my 68B. Very happy with the product and the ease of installation.

For wiring, my suggestion is Tyree Harris in Virginia (804-556-5200) and send him a restored headlight switch for him to use when he makes it.

For glass, I think you would be happy with Sanders Reproduction Glass.

I should clairify that my glass was custom for a chop top 1950 ford f-1 pickup truck, laminated windsheild and rear window tempered for side windows 145.00 for whole job then I installed going the same route with my ..A.. sport coupe only laminated all windows except rear it will be tempered. If you have some old glass for templates fine ..if not cardboard ones are not hard to make...theres even some diamesions on the net.

Brent and Hunter...

I've heard that Tyree Harris produces a very good harness. What's the difference
between his and SV harness, which I understand has good ones also. I'm talking
about E-28 (not VE-28)

I'm very interested on the answer!

Dudley,
I do not have an answer for you. I have never used one from Sacramento (or seen one to my knowledge). The one from Mr Harris met all of my objectives. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I was looking at it from a Fine Point perspective, when I buy a harness for my
E-28, which is different than a "standard A". Purchasing a more "correct" harness
that 'works", only spending the money one time(which would be novel).

Thanks for the help...Dudley

Sacramento Vintage builds all yhere wiring harnesses in house. They have an original Wiring Loom Machine, correct color coded wire, and wire terminals.

Note: They used my original harness and switch to set up for making the VE 28 harness with plug in connectors..

Note: The same harness is used on the Early 28 except it is terminated on a special terminal block. You will have to provide your own terminal block which is used in the 3 position switch which was used thru February 1929. The tail light harness is seperate from the headlight harness, it is loomed to the stop light switch like the originals, and extends clear to the Tuna Can tailight plug in like the original.

Yep, as Ron states, it runs ALL the way to the drum taillight, and that's why I bought from SVF. I didn't see the harness listed in the catalog, but when I called and told them what I wanted they had 4 on hand at that moment. I have the correct terminal block to solder to the lighting harness.

Most if not all the other parts houses sell a harness that needs an extension plugged to the harness to finish the last 18" for the drum taillight.
