Installed Led for 31 dash light 6 volt.
It works extremely well.
I had this 12 volt led bulb laying around and I thought what the heck let me try it. The plastic case had to be cut down to fit inside of the metal housing on the dash light because it is too big. I can leave the light on for hours and grab it, it is cool to the touch, and gives a nice warm white light. It only draws .07 watts. https://www.amazon.com/ZITRADES-BA15...et_feature_div |

It does not need that bulblike surround?? You can leave the led itself exposed?? Could you post a photo of what it looks lke after you made it work; I would be interested in trying this....thanks!

Are you running positive ground?

Interesting.
Price-wise kind of a zinger, though. Makes a #63 not seem so bad at 2 for $2.49 at some auto parts places. |

I don't drive too much at night, but when I do it is nicer. The LED does not need the plastic case to work. Years ago I did this for the courtesy lamp on non Ford that I had. That was a must because if you accidently left the standard bulb on for a while it would get so hot that it would melt the plastic covering on the car. Not Chevies best move. The plastic on that LED had to be cut. Many times at a show I would leave the door open so people could look inside. The other guys would say aren't you afraid that with the door open all day that will burn the bottom of the dash? Nope. Last edited by old31; 09-11-2017 at 08:13 AM. |

Thanks for the reply; I like to use that light at night, but mine also gets very hot....so hot it is hard to move the switch to turn it off. I might order one of these.

Re: Installed Led for 31 dash light 6 volt.
Terry, and others, on a 6 volt Model A, a very simple fix for the bright, hot dash light problem is to put a #67 bulb in the instrument panel light. It is a small 12 volt, 3 candlepower, tail light bulb. Available at any auto parts store for cheap money. It will glow a nice orange light at night, and it won't get so crazy hot! You can leave it on while you drive to see the instruments and not be blinded by the bright light of a stock bulb.
This LED light approach also works, but unless you happen to just have one laying around, the #67 bulb is a lot cheaper.
