If it's an A,not really,as the A doesn't have a rear seal.It has a slinger,or baffle as some call it.If you have a leak it is worn babbit, gasket around the cam hole, missing drain tube, and a half dozen other things. My money would be on bad babbit.

It all depends ---stock, modified, ---as Keith says ---originally no "seal" ---and many other causes, easiest fix is if the oil fill cap is pushed down too far.
When mine started to leak some more than it should the babbitt in the cap had crumbled. now it will only leak if the oil level is too high ---if I keep the level the width of the "F" below it --no leak more than a random drop as designed. The upper "seal" could be changed in the car in most cases, but a better job of fitting can be done without the crankshaft installed. |

I've done it with a host and engine stand alone many times.

There is no seal. If it is leaking a lot of oil. Things to check.
To much end play in crank. To much clearance in rear main. Take out some shims. Oil return plugged in cap. Oil return pipe screwed to far in cap. Bottom of rear main cap not flat. Broken rear main thrust. Also it could be coming from the cam shaft. No gasket between engine and flywheel housing. Some engines the bolts that hold the housing on go all the way in to the engine. On those engines you need to use a sealer on those bolts. |

Rear Main Oil Seal The original type cast aluminum insert. This is the insert that goes up into the block. It is best to replace this when overhauling a motor. Part Number A-6335 1928-31 $12.50 / ea. Some say their is no Rear Main Seal, I was always told that this was ths Seal. http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/1422 Rear Main Oil Seal @ Snyders |
