Removed some leaves..
I've taken 4 leaves from the rear of my jailbar truck. I now have this gap above the clamps. I could cut down the long leaf and put in in as a spacer. Would rather not cut it unless really necessary?

Re: Removed some leaves..
I would cut the clamps down and re-drill them, but if you don't want to do that, fab some blocks to take up the space. Make the blocks twice the distance from the spring to the center of the clamp bolt. Drill a hole slightly larger than the clamp bolt through the center of the block and then cut the block in half. You now have two blocks, one for each spring, with a half hole in each one. The half holes will keep the blocks in place.

Re: Removed some leaves..
What is the purpose of the clamps,to keep leaves all in line or in case something let's go?

Re: Removed some leaves..
Just to line up the spring leaves and hold them together. Some springs have them and some do not.

I think I'll see where the truck sits first then make some spacers

Re: Removed some leaves..
I took a few leaves out of my '40 and fabricated an aluminum block that is 2"x8"x 3/4" thick. It works perfectly. Of course drill a hole in the middle for the center bolt. By using a different thickness of stock you could "fine tune" the application. Easy stuff.

Here is a shot of how the spacer-bar appears under the spring.

Re: Removed some leaves..
Thanks for the pic. I may need to do something like that. Someone added some cut down leafs but they don't fill the gap properly. My truck is leaning a couple inches in the right rear. So I may be looking at replacing the whole leaf spring.

Re: Removed some leaves..
Take the spring to a good spring shop. They can re-arch the spring and give it any profile you need.

Re: Removed some leaves..
Thanks for the advice I'm wondering if I or they will be able to tell its weaker on the right side. I'm going to remove it today and take a look at it.
