Default 36 banjo steering wheel

Any hints on fixing original 36 banjo steering wheel with broken wires? How do they break to begin with?

You have to chip the plastic out of the way and weld the wires then restore the plastic with PC-7. G.M.

To the best of my knowledge there are really only two types of '36 banjo wheels around. The original (I believe made by Sheller) and the Drake repo. The difference between the two is great. Note the pictures below. The first two is an original '36 and the last two (light brown colored) is the Drake repo. The original is far more sturdy and built with a thicker casting. It is also much heavier the the repo. The Drake repo is much thinner and the wheel itself actually flexes with use. Not so for the original. As far as possibly repairing a banjo the original gives you more to work with and should be repairable. Whereas the thin cast light-weight repo would be more difficult to successfully repair.

Hope this helps.

Tom
