Default flathead six baffles

Can someone explain to me what their purpose is? The part I am referring to are the three items noted with 6524 number in the drawing.

They help prevent the engine oil from getting up into the valve guides.

Check with Joblot Auto (800.221.0172) ask for James. They have this part number listed in their catalog.

Interesting....I have a '51 H motor in my '51 sedan that does not have these baffles. It was a 58,000 mile car when I bought it and had never been opened up (unless they were removed during a valve adjustment at some time). I just bought a "M" engine that has them.

So maybe they are not of great importance? How many miles on your H motor? I assume I will see your 51 again at TMS in a couple of weeks. One of my favorites since it is identical to my first car at 16.

Thanks for checking Mac. They probably thought it odd to have two calls for them in one day.

The engine has 97,000 on it now, about 30,000 since a complete overhaul. It doesn't smoke or use any oil so the baffles must not do much. I am planning on being at TMS Friday and Saturday. I'll look for your car.

In theory the baffles were to keep the oil from getting up into the valve guides. The 1951 engines were equipt with rotating valves and maybe the reason that the baffles were not deemed as necissary
