Default Leaking Zenith Side Bowl filter housing

Has anyone had any success stopping a repo side bowl filter housing from leaking. The one I have will not seal the draining plug. Leaks like a sieve!! Any ideas appreciated

There are several possibilities, especially if it is a repo. The two sides of the housing may not be parallel. The inner part may be too long and it will bottom out before the housing sides come together correctly. I had one that had the sides of the housing milled and the inner part cut down. Use a black gasket for the smaller one and two for the larger.

I have found the the drain taps to be poor quality.- lapping in with grinding paste is one possibly solution, a blob of sealant ( we use hylomar blue over here) always helps, failing all else replace tap with a bolt with fiber gasket and sealant

Guten Tag Rick,
I tried several times to get the drain plug tight. It never got really good.

As a solution, I soldered the drain hole and unscrew the entire drain plug out to drain it.

I don't have one of those but I rebuilt a couple original early shut off valves that go under the tank with little problem. Then I went to rebuild a repop and the internal parts were not mated up properly and still had rough casting on the critical valve part that was supposed to turn. No amount of lapping would work as by the time I would have got it smooth the whole thing would have been too small to fit and would bottom out. The outside sure was pretty, they put a lot of time into getting it to look good. It has always leaked so now I know why. I lapped the originals by using toothpaste so as to not cut the brass too much. Used small graphite packing rope and so far they are working. The hard part was removing the internal washer and digging out the old packing.

Thanks for all the responses... FYI Going through my junk drawer, found a door hinge screw with the correct size and thread, used gasket sealer and blocked off the drain.. Solved the problem, no leak.... Repo parts will never meet the test as original....
