Would you restore a Model A today or not?
I am interested in whether the Fordbarn community would or would not restore a Model A today. I am looking for either a Yes or No answer. I don't want to get sidetracked regarding "for a low enough price" or "that bodystyle is not worth it", or "it's too rough", or "it's too much money" etc.
Every person's reasons are their own (if you want to state them as you vote, that's fine). I am looking for an up or down vote. I am interested in where people stand today. Thanks in advance for your participation. |

Cheaper to buy one properly done than to correctly restore one today.

Simply put, yes. When my finances improve I will resume the restoration of the delivery. With the results of yesterdays medical tests this will likely be delayed a while longer. Rod

Re: Would you restore a Model A today or not?
depends on what peoples definition of restoration actually is. are we talking about refreshing a car that was restored 40 years ago? (go thru brakes, rebuild engine, replace some interior maybe paint etc)
or are we talking resurrecting the basketcase that was in the barn with mice and rust since 1945? personally id like a car that needs refreshing where most fasteners may come apart relatively easily more than complete rebuild of every aspect where theres major rust repair and end up cutting off 70% of the bolts due to severe rust.

Re: Would you restore a Model A today or not?
Good question. For a simple 'yes' or 'no' as you indicated I would have to lean towards 'no'. Not that I like the cars any less that's not it. It's a matter of money.
Hard to justify putting $65K into a car that will MAYBE, maybe, with the right buyer fetch $20,000 at sale time. That's a lot of coin to eat. Besides, THAT'S just what the next guy did. Bought a beautifully restored car for less than a third of what you put in it I'd say wait and buy one correctly done already. That way you can buy three nice Model A's for the price of one. And when you sell, you won't get bit as hard. Maybe break even. |
