Re: Trash Can Condenser price increase
Hi Denny, sorry to hear that your arthritis has gotten that bad. I just had a New Hip
operation 4 months ago, as the arthritis in it was too much to take any more. I was planning to come up to Brainerd this weekend to visit my sister, so I was going to run up to your place and stop in and do some old bench-racing with ya...But now I guess she is coming down to my place this year instead, so I'll have to make it up to your neck of the woods sometime next year...You're probably back in Florida by now anyway ??? Hope ya have a good winter season, take care...Lanny .

Thanks, Lanny. It's just as well, as I have been down here for over a month. I am looking forward to seeing you next year.

Re: Trash Can Condenser price increase
I feel ya, going thru 8 yrs of bouncing from specialist to specialist.
I always look for your posts when I'm here. Thanks for the heads-up. There is a product called Arnica or Arnicare. It is natural, comes in a tube, topical. Gets one through a rough day. Regret not giving you business, but can't even organize the garage into a shop. Last I looked, the mice are taking over. Keep Posting. Your experience and advice is always needed.

Re: Trash Can Condenser price increase
Hi Dennis,
I bought one of your caps a few years ago, for my 59AB. The price at the time was substantially more that what I would have paid at the local auto parts store, but I learned along time ago, paying for quality is worth every penny. My '46 starts and runs just like Henry built it, hot or cold. It's no fun getting old, but I had a hell of a lot of fun getting here! |

I would also be interested in purchasing a condenser. Could you PM info?

Re: Trash Can Condenser price increase
I’ve looked at these for years with the intention of buying one (or two).
Question - is it for a certain type of distributor? Helmet, Crab, 8BA? |

Re: Trash Can Condenser price increase
Since these mount externally, they can be used with just about anything. Sometimes a little ingenuity may be required (see Post # 24 above). I have them on Mallory's (of course), old Ford "Load-a-matics", and various GM distributors. The Olds distributor I show in Post # 14 is a typical installation.
Actually, it's more important that the condenser match the coil (capacitance vs. impedance). My condensers are rated at .22 microfarads, which is a good match with most modern coils. The original Mallory's were .36 microfarads which matched the older coils but is a bit much these days. Actually, the ideal capacitance varies with engine speed, so all condensers are a compromise. In real life, the actual capacitance is not that important; the engine will run with a wide range, the only variable being point life. When we made our first prototype, the only capacitor we had at the time was .04 microfarads, and the engine ran fine. |

Question, can this be mounted on the firewall like some folks do?

Re: Trash Can Condenser price increase
Bringing this thread back to the top resulted in a bunch of new interest and as a result, I am all sold out. We have another batch of 25 in progress that will be done in a few days. I really want to know that we have the goods in hand before I commit to any orders.
I will post when they are ready to go. |
